Yeezy x GAP Representative Denies News That Kanye Is Trying To Throw A Fashion Show With Homeless People

unnamed

On Thursday, news came out about Ye wanting to address Los Angeles’s homeless problem with a fashion show featuring homeless people as models.

According to a report by TMZ, David Sebastian, the founder of Skid Row Fashion Week, told TMZ that he had met with Kanye earlier this month and decided to make a Yeezy x Skid Row Fashion Week clothing collab.

Sebastian said that his company donates a portion of the sales to the homeless in the Skid Row area and to the factory that makes the clothes. He added that 100% of the proceeds from his collab with Kanye would go to hire more people struggling with homelessness at the Skid Row Fashion Week factory.

However, in a recent update to Complex, a Yeezy Gap representative denied the existence of a collaboration in the works between David and Ye, and that the event was not on Kanye’s schedule.

“Ye has a deep and solution-oriented commitment to addressing issues surrounding homelessness but this reported event is not on our schedule at this time nor are we aware of any product collaboration in development,” the spokesperson said.

Despite the event not taking place, Kanye has said in the past that he has a plan to address Los Angeles’s growing homelessness problem. In November of last year, Ye made an appearance at the L.A. Mission and met with CEO Reverend Troy Vaughn where he presented four ways in which he could help the homeless problem.

Kanye West To Help The Homeless, Employing Skid Row Occupants as Models For New “Yeezy X” Fashion Show

Ye formerly known as Kanye West has a unique take on helping the homeless. Ye plans to hold a fashion show for his new streetwear brand “Yeezy X” with models picked from homeless people who live on Skid Row.

TMZ says the rapper is collaborating with streetwear brand Skid Row Fashion Week on a new line that would help the homeless. The event would be a collaboration with streetwear brand, Skid Row Fashion Week and Ye’s “Yeezy X” clothing line.

Skid Row founder David Sabastian says he met with the DONDA creator earlier this month at his studio near L.A.’s Skid Row district, and that they decided to collaborate on a new clothing line.

Sabastian says his company will donate all the proceeds from the line to help the homeless on Skid Row, and that he and West are also planning a fashion show featuring homeless models.

The proceeds from the sale of the new fashions would help hire more people who are struggling with homelessness.

Ye has previously met with Los Angeles leaders to discuss ways to solve the city’s homeless problem.

The new “Yeezy X” line comes out February 22, the same day as DONDA 2 is set to arrive on all DSPs.

Offbeat Rapper Blueface Threw Money In Skid Row, Twitter Tells Him It Was Tasteless

Blueface may have had his heart in the right place, but a recent video that has since gone viral has the offbeat rapper in the crosshairs of social media. The Find The Beat rapper visited Los Angeles’ Skid Row neighborhood to toss out money, and Twitter is letting him know how tasteless the act was.

Via Twitter, Blueface posted the clip of him tossing bills atop a truck with a crowd clamoring around him. It appeared to be around two dozen people surrounding the vehicle and as evidenced by the “The season of giving” caption, Blueface wanted to spread some holiday cheer.

Again, big ups to Blue for trying to make some days brighter but Skid Row and Los Angeles overall is dealing with widespread homelessness and poverty with observers noting that he could have used the funds to begin long-lasting programs or work with others already looking to eliminate the widespread issues in the city.

Since Tuesday morning (December 24), Blueface has been catching the wrath of folks on Twitter with people who were formerly homeless and advocates of the poor chiming in with their thoughts. Overall, the sentiment expressed just reeked of bad form and hopefully, he’s been reading the commentary and shifting his thinking about giving back.

Naturally, Blueface had some supporters of the act, including DJ Akademiks and more, but there are tons more responses calling out the move as a terrible PR stunt at the expense of the poor residents of Skid Row.  The area’s problems have seemingly exploded in recent months as downtown Los Angeles continues to see rapid revitalization.
