Having dropped an EP with Flee Lord and being a member of Lord Mobb, you’ve likely heard Phonk P before. Well, the Bompton native is back with a new single titled “Two Tens” that features his fellow Los Angelenos Compton Menace and former Death Row Records inmate, Eastwood.
After a 4 month hiatus Phonk P and godBLESSbeatz is back at again gifting fans with another crack raw street track and video titled “Red Laces”. Inspired from the late great Nipsey Hussle song “Blue Laces“ the Compton native puts out an aggressive delivery and rides the soulful instrumental. Phonk P is considered to be one of the greatest rappers coming of Compton, his lyrics and rap flows speak to and are from the streets.
Phonk P is a 32 year old MC from Compton, California who came to my attention in the spring of 2019 after dropping the collab EP Up’s & Down’s with his mentor Flee Lord, who would sign P to Lord Mobb Music following the release of his Local Astronauts-produced EP Bitters. However for his official debut under the ever-growing New York based indie imprint, godBLESSbeatz is being brought in to his sophomore EP in it’s entirety which caught my attention given the fact that the Loyalty or Death: Lord Talk trilogy was a lot of people’s introduction to Flee with myself being included.
After the titular intro, the first song “Murder Medley” opens the EP with Fred Blaze & Hyde Park tagging along on top of some melancholic piano chords thirsting for blood whereas “Hiatus” takes a smokier route putting a pause on the haters out there. Compton Menace comes into the picture for the horn/trap infused “Ghetto Byrds” talking about family over everything leading into the hypnotic “Resin” encouraging to keep your enemies closer. The dusty penultimate track “Bity of Industry” finds Hyde returning to proclaim that they’ll bust on anyone who disses them & “Lately” ends it off on a jazzy yet introspective note.
From the get-go, I had a feeling that Off-White Underbelly was gonna be P’s best work thus far & I stood corrected at the end of the day. I feel like he kinda overdid it on the features a tad bit, but there’s no denying that this is the best he’s ever sounded lyrically & godBLESSbeatz’ production on here compared to his previous efforts is just on a different dimension.
Los Angeles spitter Phonk P teams-up with his production Co-D Marvel Mayne for Lowd Comix II. The ten-track effort features that rollin’ drum machine n’ smoked out G-Funk that only L.A. G’s can deliver. Joining Phonk on his lyrical excursions are some of the coldest emcees in the west including Trizz, T.F. 2Eleven, Fred Blaze, Xavier, Body Bagg Jonez & Shon Hill.
As the II in the project title implies this is the 2nd edition since 2018’s first collaborative project. Since then both artists have been on an impressive come-up including Phonk P being tapped for Flee Lord’s recently formed Lord Mobb music collective. As such Phonk was blessed with the only solo joint (“Summertime”) on the Lord Mobb Compilation Vol 1 which was hosted by Hot 97 radio host Peter Rosenberg. As of this writing “Summertime” has racked up an impressive 250,000 streams on Spotify alone.
Marvel Mayne’s production has been placed with such notable artists as YFN Lucci, PnB Rock and SOB RBE. Expect visuals for several tracks on Lowd Comix II to follow shortly.
Before Phonk P releases “The Rachettivites” EP , he teams up with Yelohill for the new single “Pressure” produced by Brkly, putting more pressure on to fans and the hip-hop community in the L.A. Underground Scene.
