Could the Grammys take their 2022 show to Las Vegas? Billboard notes the MGM Grand Garden is a possible location for the ceremony. The Grammys were et for the Crypto.com arena before announcing their postponement. If the MGM deal comes to play, it would be the first time Music’s Biggest Night would be held in Las Vegas.

The MGM Grand Garden has a capacity of 17,000 people and has hosted the Latin Grammys, Billboard Music Awards, and Academy of Country Music Awards in the past.

Last month, the Recording Academy released a statement citing the 64th Annual Grammy Awards scheduled for January 31, 2022, is postponed because of the sudden uptick in positive COVID-19 cases in Los Angeles due to the easily spread Omicron variant.

The statement says, “After careful consideration and analysis with city and state officials, health and safety experts, the artist community and our many partners, the Recording Academy and CBS have postponed the 64th Annual GRAMMY Awards Show. The health and safety of those in our music community, the live audience, and the hundreds of people who work tirelessly to produce our show remains our top priority.”

It continues, “Given the uncertainty surrounding the Omicron variant, holding the show on January 31st simply contains too many risks. We look forward to celebrating Music’s Biggest Night on a future date, which will be announced soon.”

This is the second time that the Grammy has been postponed due to the pandemic. Last year, the original January 31 date was pushed back to March 14 due to COVID-19. With the rapidly rising number of cases in L.A., it was likely that a postponement was eminent. According to the Los Angeles County Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer, “We are, in fact, experiencing the worst of a surge at the moment with the rising number of cases.”

Just as all other major events at the top of 2022 such as the Grammys, the Sundance Film Festival will be postponed due to the current Omicron variant outbreak, putting the premiere of Kanye West’s Jeen-Yuhs documentary premiere on hold.

Organizers for the festival announced yesterday(January 5) that the Park City, Utah annual event that was originally set for January 20 will now be postponed due to the rising number of positive COVID-19 cases around the country.

“Despite the most ambitious protocols, the Omicron variant with its unexpectedly high transmissibility rates is pushing the limits of health safety, travel, and other infrastructures across the country. And so, today we’re announcing: the Festival’s in-person Utah elements will be moving online this year,” read the statement from Sundance.

Netflix did confirm the premiere of Kanye’s new the Coodie & Chike-directed documentary, which chronicles the life of the 44-year-old Roc-A-Fella producer to the billionaire Hip Hop mogul he is today. “Shot over 20 years, this documentary trilogy is an intimate and revealing portrait of Kanye West’s experience, showcasing both his formative days trying to break through and his life today as a global brand and artist,” Netflix said in a statement.

Even though Ye isn’t directly involved in the film’s production, he signed off on the doc, which will be sold for $30 million later this year.
