Matthew Knowles Reportedly Shuts Down Destiny's Child Reunion Speculation

Fans began speculating that there was a Destiny’s Child reunion because the header and bio on the group’s Twitter and Facebook pages were updated.

Additionally, Beyonce revealed that she was working on new music in a recent interview.

“With all the isolation and injustice over the past year, I think we are all ready to escape, travel, love, and laugh again. I feel a renaissance emerging, and I want to be part of nurturing that escape in any way possible. I’ve been in the studio for a year and a half. Yes, the music is coming!” she told Harpers Bazaar.

It’s unclear if Bey is working on solo music of music with Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, but the remark was enough to fuel the rumor.

However, Beyonce’s father and Destiny’s Child manager, Matthew Knowles told TMZ there are “zero plans for the iconic group to reunite, make an album, tour or do anything of the sort.”

The reason for the social media update is just a routine revamp by the label.

Jagged Edge Responds to Mathew Knowles’ Sexual Harassment Claims

Jagged Edge solidified themselves as some of the most prominent voices of the early 2000s. It’s safe to say that they will be apart of countless wedding soundtracks for years to come. But they got caught up in some controversy thanks to Matthew Knowles.

Beyonce’s father claimed two men out of the group sexually harassed his daughter and Kelly Rowland while they were on tour, which prompted him to kick the men off the bus. “Now remember, the girls are minors,” Mathew said. “They’re 16-years-old the guys are 21, 22-years-old… I got a call from Kelly and Beyoncé—and I talk about this in the book in detail—saying that they were constantly being harassed by two other members of Jagged Edge. I couldn’t have that.”

Knowles didn’t name the culprits, however, two of the group members took to Instagram to accuse the pop group’s former manager of trying to sell his tell-all book.

The official Jagged Edge account shared a meme that read, “A lie don’t care who tell it.” Brian Casey posted the same meme with more insight in the caption: “One thing I have learned from my 20plus years in this business and it’s always something,” he wrote. “It’s actually funny how far people go to sell something 🤦🏽‍♂️lol but I give All Praises To The Most High At all times Shalawam love ones.”

Mathew Knowles Says Beyoncé’s & Kelly Rowland’s Careers Affected By Colorism

Mathew Knowles helped guide the career of his daughter Beyoncé and her Destiny’s Child bandmates early on and dropped a bombshell of a statement regarding the issue of colorism in music. In essence, Knowles says that Beyoncé may have positively benefitted in music due to her lighter complexion versus Kelly Rowland, although she has enjoyed significant success around the world as well.

As a guest on The Clay Cane Show via SiriusXM Urban View, Knowles, who has taught a class on examining the presence of colorism in entertainment at Texas Southern University, said that the standard of beauty placed on lighter complexions has been going on for years in the music business.

“In the music industry there’s still segregation,” Knowles said. “Programmers, especially at pop radio, have this imagery of what beauty looks like. … If you look back even at Whitney Houston, if you look at those photos, how they lightened her to make her look lighter-complexioned.”

He added after saying his daughter may be a beneficiary of this so-called segregation,”And I use Kelly Rowland as an example. She’s a great example. But you know, the great thing is, Kelly did exceptional outside of America, especially in Australia. Kelly sold over 4 million records.”

Interesting points.

Matthew Knowles Says if Beyoncé Was Darker It “Would Have Affected Her Success”

The issue of colorism has been a hot topic in the Hip Hop community recently after Tory Lanez called out a director for allegedly swapping out a dark skin model for a light skin model in his music video.

Matthew Knowles recently stopped by Clay Cane on SiriusXM Urban View on Tuesday and their chat included the subject of colorism.

Knowles, who is the father of Beyoncé and Solange, was instrumental in the early success of Destiny’s Child. Therefore, he has been in the game for a while and knows a thing or two.

The host shared that his Texas Southern University students did a study that showed in a 15-year period, Top 40 airplay artists who were black women were all lighter-skinned. This list included Alicia Keys, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, Mariah Carey, and Beyoncé.

“In the music industry, there’s still segregation, as you know,” Knowles said. “There used to be the black division, race records and programmers, especially at pop radio, has this imagery of what beauty looks like. They wanted that imagery to be the same that’s singing those records. If you look back, even like Whitney Houston, if you look at those photos, how they lighten her to make her look lighter complexion because there’s a perception in colorism…the lighter you are the smarter, the more economically… all around the world about color, even with black folks, there’s a perception.”

“How different do you think Beyoncé’s career would have been if she were a darker skinned woman?” Cane asked.

“I think it would have affected her success. I use Kelly Rowland [as] a great example,” Knowles responded. “The great thing is Kelly did exceptional outside of America, especially in Australia. Kelly sold over 4 million records.”
