Kelly Rowland has had a long run in the music industry as we have watched her emerge from the dynamic girl group Destiny’s Child to a rising solo artist with hits such as “Lay it on Me,” “Kisses Down Low,” “ICE” and more.
Just last year, after releasing her single “Coffee,” Rowland would sign a management deal with Roc Nation. “It just really happened to work and it’s working out really well so far. My team, I have a great team. It’s not to say I didn’t have a great team before, had a great team before. You evolve, you move on and that’s really it and Roc Nation is home now.”
In a recent interview, Rowland revealed that Ciara’s “Like a Boy” was originally written for her after being asked if Destiny Child had a song given to someone else. “Not that I know of that I know of. That’s happened to me personally and I didn’t find out till much later,” Rowland stated. “‘Like a Boy,’ that was Ciara’s, was actually written for me.”
“Funny enough, she is honestly one of the closest things to me. We bonded over motherhood. I wonder if she knows that,” she continued. “I’ll make sure to call her after this. But yeah, it was so funny. I found that out later and I was like, ‘Wait, what?’ The writers and producers told me and they were like, ‘Yeah, we wrote that in your session.’ I was like, ‘No, you didn’t.’ I was so mad. But now I’m happy for my girl.”
While Rowland may have had the single first, there is no doubt that Ciara’s vocals and performance brought the song to life. Ciara released “Like a Boy” in 2006. Her music visual for the single was nominated in 2007 for “Best Choreography” at MTV’s VMAs and “Video of the Year” at the BET Awards.

Michelle Williams gave fans a behind-the-scenes glimpse of a mini-reunion she had with her girls, Beyonce and Kelly Rowland.
Fans got a look at Kelly’s newborn and also got a hint that Beyonce might be working on some new music.
Rowland shared that she was cooking chicken and rice soup and Michelle asked, “B, are you making some musical soup right now?”
“I’m cooking some music — that’s Chef Boyardee and Chef Boy-Kelly,” Beyoncé joked, before adding, “You know I’m editing that s— out.”
The reunion was made to celebrate the release of Michelle’s upcoming book, Checking In: How Getting Real About Depression Saved My Life — and Can Save Yours.
Williams also shared what she hoped fans received from her new book.
“It’s okay to not be okay. and it’s okay to tell somebody you’re not okay,” her singing mate said in response. “I honestly should have done that with y’all. I’ve been open about a lot of things, but I was never really truthful about how I really was. Even though y’all have proven to be safe friends, safe sisters, sometimes people have to know you’re not going to be looked at differently if you say, ‘Y’all, I’ve been really sad too long. Something’s going on.’”
Kelly Rowland released an album last year and become a mother. Michelle is gearing up to release her self help book. Meanwhile, Beyonce is cooking up new music.

Michelle Williams gave fans the closest thing to a Destiny’s Child reunion on social media Wednesday evening.
In celebration of the release of her new book, Checking In: How Getting Real About Depression Saved My Life — and Can Save Yours, she posted an audio recording of their private conversation.
In Williams’ first clip, she wrote, “Look who checked in yesterday with me!! The only time we’ll let y’all eavesdrop on our group chats!!” She said she “just wanted to check in and see what’s going on,” noting she wanted to be more intentional with checking in with her friends.
Beyoncé replied, “Oh, we love and miss you so much! We’re so proud of you, Mimi! You are so inspirational for both of us — and we just love watching you become exactly who you are and the world [to] see your impact, wisdom, and beautiful advice.”
“Amen!” Rowland added.

The REFORM Alliance has announced a 70,000 mask donation from Kelly Rowland. The personal protective equipment will be delivered to prison and jail facilities in Harris County, Texas and Fulton County, Georgia. The PPE will protect the incarcerated population, correctional officers, healthcare workers, and personnel from COVID-19 exposure.
“We’re grateful to Kelly for her generosity and care for our incarcerated population,” REFORM Alliance CEO Van Jones said. “As our country shifts its attention to re-opening, we can’t forget about the millions of people that remain incarcerated and that continue to struggle with the devastating threat of COVID-19. Kelly’s donation is crucial in helping REFORM deliver PPE to every prison and jail across America.”
By mid-May, over 1,000 incarcerated people and jail staff in the Harris County Jail contracted COVID-19. The infection rate was one of the highest for jails in the United States, The Houston Chronicle. 1,300 cases remained in jail as of last week, however, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez has attempted to depopulate the jail to help reduce the spread of the virus.
Currently, 37 cases of COVID-19 have been reported at Atlanta’s Fulton County jail, which has an incarcerated population of 2,600. 55 percent of people admitted to prison in Georgia are there for probation violations.
The donation from Rowland is a month after Twitter/Square CEO Jack Dorsey donated over 10 million masks to 50 states across the United States.

Since the split of Destiny Child, Kelly Rowland has continued to bless her fans with hits like “Ice,” “Motivation,” and her most recent single, “Coffee.” In an interview with the Associated Press, The Grammy-winning singer shares her new management deal with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation entertainment company. The singer also touched on her album that she plans to release in the near future.
“I’m very excited about this album. I’m excited for the fact that the years that it took me to find tempo,” she explained. “The whole album’s not up-tempo, but I’m excited to share my tempo. I feel like I always had mids and slower records but yeah, I’m ready to dance. Especially when we come out of all this, we need to dance.”
The singer told AP that she is an independent artist and briefly explained her new management deal with Roc Nation. “It’s family and it just happened. It just really happened to work and it’s working out really well so far,” she mentioned. “My team, I have a great team. It’s not to say I didn’t have a great team before, I had a great team before. You evolve, you move on and that’s really it and Roc Nation is home now.” Rowland also adds that she just needs to squeeze in one more song before the album will be fully complete.
Although coronavirus has affected the release of the singer’s new album, Rowland promises the album will still release this year.
