According to Deadline, Eddie Murphy is currently in early talks to play Parliament-Funkadelic founder George Clinton in an upcoming biopic. Murphy is also set to serve as a producer on the project with Dolemite Is My Name collaborator John Davis and Catherine Davis.
Murphy and Davis are currently looking at securing the rights to bring the P-Funk founder’s life to the big screen. Once the rights are secured, they will hire writers and shop the project to different studios. The project is a part of Murphy’s three-movie deals with Amazon Video that came after the success of Coming 2 America.
The film focuses on Clinton’s upbringing in North Carolina in the 1940s and will show the formation of Parliament-Funkadelic and the band’s impact on hip hop artists such as Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, 2Pac, and Ice Cube.
Murphy’s upcoming George Clinton project is a “passion project” for him. Murphy took a few years from acting before returning with 2019’s Dolemite Is My Name. Murphy garnered acclaim for his portrayal of Rudy Ray Moore and even received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor. Murphy is set to appear in Netflix’s You People later this year, directed by Kenya Barris and co-written by Jonah Hill. The star-studded cast includes Lauren London, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, David Duchovny, Nia Long, Sam Jay, and Molly Gordon.
Murphy is also set to reprise his role as Axel Foley in Beverly Hills Cop IV.

New York City’s Homecoming Week of free concerts continues today on Staten Island with a live show featuring members of Wu-Tang Clan.
Raekwon and fellow Wu-Tang member Ghostface Killah will take the stage at Midland Beach along with Crystal Waters, EPMD and a host of other artists.
Big Daddy Kane headlines Thursday’s show at the Brooklyn Army Terminal. The celebration continues on Friday with George Clinton + P-Funk All Stars at Forest Hills Stadium. On Saturday, Central Park hosts the We Love NYC: The Homecoming Concert.
As reported by the Mayors office,
“It’s time to celebrate our city, support our local businesses, and have an incredible Summer of New York City.”
“Hip Hop culture reflects the mosaic that makes NYC, with its sound coming from all genres and spanning many communities. Working in partnership with the City and others, this is our love letter to music fans from all over NYC.”
NYC Homecoming Week events will also include free film screenings hosted by Rooftop Films, at NYC Restaurant Week, and Summer Streets. The iconic events, cultural activities, public art, and more will be in all five boroughs.
This celebration of New York City’s resilience will drive support for the mom-and-pop businesses and local organizations that define our neighborhoods and that kept the heart of our city beating throughout the COVID pandemic.

The legendary group’s first release for Def Jam Recordings in over two decades features a powerful lineup of guests including Nas, YG, Rapsody, DJ Premier, Black Thought, Questlove, Cypress Hill, Run-DMC, Ice-T, PMD, George Clinton, Daddy-O, Jahi, The Impossebulls, Mark Jenkins, S1Ws Pop Diesel and James Bomb, and Beastie Boys’Mike D and Ad-Rock.
The announcement of What You Gonna Do When The Grid Goes Down? and their return to Def Jam — a cultural institution that they helped build — was heralded around the globe with the group’s iconic logo projected onto some of the world’s other most iconic cultural institutions including the Eiffel Tower and Moulin Rouge in Paris; Parliament, Marble Arch & Tate Modern Museum in London, which can be seen HERE.

A match that only heaven can make: Funk music icon George Clinton has officially become a member of Omega Phi Psi Fraternity, Inc. The music legend was inducted as an honorary member along with D.L. Hughley, Anthony Anderson, and Ted Ginn, Sr.
“Newest Honorary Member of Omega Psi Phi! WHERE ALL MY DAWGS AT?” Clinton captioned a picture on Instagram.
George Clinton has long been tied to the fraternity, nicknamed Que Dogs, for their use of his 1982 classic single “Atomic Dog.”
Established members of the fraternity like comedian Rickey Smiley extended congratulations to his new brothers and also added in Minister Louis Farrakhan who was inducted earlier this year.
Omega Psi Phi is a part of the National Pan-Hellenic Council, historically composed of African American Greek-lettered organizations are are often referred to as the “Divine Nine.” Of that group, Omega Psi Phi is the first to be founded on the campus of a historically Black college on November 17, 1911.
