Outside of streaming services, video games have become of one the essential mediums to help battle boredom and cabin fever while hunkered down in the crib. To help encourage people to stay inside and stay safe, EA launched the “Stay Home. Play Together” initiative.

The initiative kicked off on March 26 with the Apex CodeRed Tourney that featured influencers/pros competing in the popular free-to-play shooter for $50K, and $250K was donated to the International Red Cross.

Just recently, the EA announced the FIFA 20 Stay and Play Cup that will see 20 professional footballers from 20 of Europe’s most historic clubs battle out in the popular soccer video game on April 15 at 9am PT/5pm UK/6pm CEST. The tournament will take place over five days, subsequently leading up to the April 19 final. EA will also be donating $1 million to help support immediate and long-term relief and recovery in vulnerable communities most affected by COVID-19. You can catch all of the action on the EA SPORTS FIFA Twitch channel and possibly score prizes thanks to Twitch Drops.

Other initiatives gamers can look forward to is a chance to play NFL pros like Ocho Cinco and Kyle Long in Madden NFL 20 and much more.

EA’s initiative follows the World Health Organization urging people to stay home and pick up the sticks with its #PlayApartTogether campaign. The move is a significant one being that WHO declared excessive gaming a mental health disorder.

You can head here to see EA’s full lineup of initiatives when you head here. So continue to stay safe, stay home, practice social distancing, and wash your hands.

If you need any more suggestions on what games to play while you’re locked down in the crib, check out these ridiculously long titles that should take up your time.

Need For Speed Heat

Need For Speed is back. The famed street racing franchise last hit consoles back in 2017 with Need For Speed Payback, is set to return this year with Need For Speed Heat Electronic Arts announced today (August 14).

Developed by Ghost Studios, who also brought us 2013’s Need For Speed Rivals, 2015’s Need For Speed and Payback, Heat is an ode to Miami street racing. In the trailer, we are taken to the fictional open world of Palm City, where street racers compete in sanctioned competitions called Speedhunters Showdowns during the day. Players will earn bank from the races that they can use to “customize and upgrade their garage of high-performance cars.”

By night players will partake in underground races to build up their rep. At the same time, they will have to avoid “rogue cops” who are looking to steal your hard-earned money.

The last entry in the Need For Speed franchise, Payback, was met with criticism due to it relying on microtransactions. In a press release, Ghost Studios Creative Director, Riley Cooper touched on listening to fans this time around to deliver a better experience with Need For Speed Heat:

“We’re delivering more options than ever before for players to be unique and make themselves known. Our fans have been clear that they want more cars, more customization, and more challenges, and we’re tuning up on every aspect. From your character’s style to your car’s performance and your driving style, we’re fuelling everyone’s creativity with this new game.”

Need For Speed Heat arrives November 8, 2019, for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. EA Access, Origin, and Access Origin members will be able to enjoy up to 10 hours of playtime on November 10. You can watch the game’s announcement trailer below.

‘Anthem’ Reportedly Crashing PS4 Consoles, EA Says They’re Aware of Issue

Anthem

Source: Bioware / EA

Bioware/EA’s epic game Anthem did not launch as smoothly as the javelin’s do into flight inside the game. Players would love to jump into one of the Iron Man-like suits and go loot chasing, but reports are surfacing that game is crashing PS4 consoles.

Since the game’s release, it has been plagued by bugs, glitches and plenty of complaints that for the most part, Bioware has addressed with patches. A new issue is gaining traction with players taking to Reddit, and other forums complaining the game is either booting them to the main menu or bricking PlayStation 4 consoles in some cases.

A thread titled “This is the only game that causes a complete PS4 shutdown” started by a Reddit user who goes by the handle ForTheMasters details his dilemma with the game. He details how while playing he claims after he gets a game error it usually sends him to the main menu, the PS4 dashboard or worst case scenario shutdown the console entirely. Since he posted it on Sunday (March 3), it has received nearly 2,000 upvotes with other players responding stating their consoles considers the issue an improper shutdown like when you yank out the power cord when the console is powered on.

EA has responded tweet from its EAHelp Twitter account stating they are aware of the crashing issue and are investigating.

I recently have been playing Anthem and experienced getting booted due to connectivity issues and various glitches but not the bricking error. This has put my playing on hold for now, and I will be waiting for Bioware/EA to issue a fix. We will keep you updated on this story. Anthem is the latest big name title plagued by post-launch issues, see Bethesda’s disastrous Fallout 76 launch.
