The Weeknd's 'Dawn FM' Surpasses 500 Million Streams

Dawn FM, The Weeknd’s debut album, debuted at #1 on Apple Music in the United States and in 125 countries, as well as #1 on Spotify in the United States and globally. To date, the total number of streams has topped 500 million.

The Weeknd has a rare two albums in the top ten, with “Sacrifice” debuting at #1 on Spotify in the US and globally, and the compilation The Highlights debuting at #6 in the Billboard Top 10 alongside Dawn FM. The video for “Sacrifice” also debuted at #1 on YouTube Trending, and the song was the most added at Top 40, Rhythm, and Hot AC radio stations.

The Weeknd surprised fans with the release of Dawn FM, opting to give them new music during the height of a global pandemic. Now, in these exceptional times, it stands out as his second global #1 album, a moment bookended by the history-making After Hours, which contained the #1 All-Time Hot 100 smash “Blinding Lights,” released in March 2020.

The Weeknd continues to immerse fans in the Dawn FM experience, releasing his new video for “Sacrifice.” The dark and artsy showcase brings one of the best offerings from the album to our screens.

After the surprise announcement to open the new year, The Weeknd keeps his promise and delivers his new album Dawn FM.

The Weeknd calls the album a “sonic experience,” and it features Tyler, the Creator, Lil Wayne, Quincy Jones, Oneohtrix Point Never, and Jim Carrey, among others.

The Weeknd dropped Dawn FM this past week and Gunna delivered DS4ever. A tight battle in sales brings The Weeknd the No. 1 debut.

Earlier in the week, The Weeknd explained that the number that he sold didn’t matter to him.

“This doesn’t matter to me,” The Weeknd said. “What matters is getting to experience the album together with the fans during these times.”

The new album brought in 60 million streams on the first day and has already surpassed the 100 million stream number. The Weeknd’s previous effort, After Hours, brought in 444,000 units in the first week.

The Weeknd calls the album a “sonic experience,” and it features Tyler, the Creator, Lil Wayne, Quincy Jones, Oneohtrix Point Never, and Jim Carrey, among others.

The Weeknd Disguises Himself as an Old Man for ‘Dawn FM’ Album Cover

The Weeknd has been preparing fans for the Friday release of his fifth studio album since he announced the release date yesterday. Now we’re even closer to Dawn FM as the Canadian singer and songwriter dropped the cover art today.

Again, Abel is in character mode with Dawn FM just he did with his 2020 release of After Hours, but this time he’s disguised as an older version of himself. He looks lost as he looks in the camera old, grey hair, wrinkled skin, and chapped lips.

No telling where he’s going with this, but according to the trailer released yesterday, we can expect him to be out of this world.

During the cinematic trailer, there’s a written message that says, “A new sonic universe from the mind of The Weeknd.” Then at the end, a radio voice-over comes on and says, “You’ve been in the dark for way too long. It’s time to walk into the light and accept your fate with open arms.”

The Weeknd’s online shop also has an alternate cover for the collector’s edition of the album, with artwork by Robert Beatty that doesn’t include the older Weeknd.
