Cyntoia Brown Shoots Down Netflix Film, “I Had Nothing To Do With This Documentary”

Murder to Mercy: The Cyntoia Brown Story

Source: Netflix / Netflix

Cyntoia Brown is speaking out about the upcoming Netflix film about the dark part of her life because according to Brown, it’s completely unauthorized.

On Wednesday (Apr 15), Netflix released the trailer for their upcoming film, Murder to Mercy, which shines a light on Brown’s case from the injustice of her sentencing to her fight for freedom and celebrity influences that led to her release from prison in 2019 after serving 15 years for the aggravated robbery and first-degree murder of 43-year-old Johnny Allen who solicited her for sex when she was 16 years old.

Now at 31-years old, the married author is moving forward telling her story–or so she thought. According to Brown, the documentary is comprised of old footage captured by a producer who approached her while she was incarcerated but she has nothing to do with the actual film and hopes that the story is in line with the woman she’s become today.

“While I was still incarcerated, a producer who has old footage of me made a deal with Netflix for an UNAUTHORIZED documentary, set to be released soon,” Cyntoia Brown wrote on Instagram. “My husband and I were as surprised as everyone else when we first heard the news because we did not participate in any way. However, I am currently in the process of sharing my story, in the right way, in full detail, and in a way that depicts and respects the woman I am today. While I pray that this film highlights things wrong in our justice system, I had nothing to do with this documentary.”

Since making it’s way to mainstream media, Brown’s case rallied a plethora of supporters including Rhianna who called for Brown’s release at the time due to injustice of being convicted for the fatal shooting after it was argued that Brown protecting herself after being “forced into prostitution” by her abusive ex and drug dealer named Kutthroat.

Child Sex Slave Cyntoia Brown Released From Prison After Being Sentenced to Life at 16

Cyntoia Brown was finally released this morning after serving 15 years of a life sentence for the 2004 murder of a Nashville real estate agent who bought her for sex.

Brown was granted clemency and released from the Tennessee prison on parole.

She was only at the tender age of 16 when her life was taken from her by the system. Earlier this year, Governor Bill Haslam made the rare move to commute her sentence before his term ended.

Executive clemency in Tennessee is “an act of mercy or leniency providing relief from certain consequence of a criminal conviction,” according to the state’s Executive Clemency Unit.

Cyntoia Brown’s case garnered national attention from A-list celebrities like Rihanna and Kim Kardashian.

In a statement released through her attorney, Brown says she would be using her second chance to help abused women and girls.

“While first giving honor to God who made all of this possible, I would also like to thank my many supporters who have spoken on my behalf and prayed for me,” Brown said just days before her release.

“I’m blessed to have a very supportive family and friends to support me in the days to come. I look forward to using my experiences to help other women and girls suffering abuse and exploitation.”

Black Twitter Hauls Shaun King Out The Paint For Bullying Writer With Lawsuit

2018 BET Awards -Show

Source: FayesVision/WENN.com / WENN

Shaun King has undoubtedly used his large platform to be on the right side of justice more often than not, but his recent actions on Twitter reveal that he’s using that same platform to harm those he typically protects. A writer by the name of Clarissa Brooks put out a tweet that took a jab at King that she later deleted, only for the activist to dredge it back up with legal bullying and tough talk.

Brooks tweeted on Jan. 7, “Are folks going to hold Shaun King accountable to money he ‘raised’ for Cyntoia? Or is that going to disappear as well…” which prompted King to issue the first of many missives towards Brooks and amassing an Avengers-like lineup of legal representation including Benjamin Crump and Lee Merritt on Wednesday (Jan. 16).

Right.

While King certainly has the right to defend himself, the lengths he went to try and prove that he isn’t to be trifled with seemed harsh on the surface and betrays much of what he’s stood for over the past few years. This has led to an overwhelming number of Black Twitter users giving King the business for flexing muscle when Brooks had already deleted the tweet and was attempting to move on from the matter.

Kim Kardashian Reportedly Receives Thousands of Letters From Inmates Asking to Help Free Them

Kim Kardashian’s vow to aid with prison reform resulted in the recently clemency of Cyntoia Brown. Now thousands of inmates are reaching out to the beauty mogul to see if she can help get them out too.

TMZ reports that thousands of inmates wrote Kardashian letters pleading for her legal support to overturn their cases. Brown is the second inmate that she advocated for and successfully helped free. The reality star  has been dubbed the Princess of Prison Reform by prisoners and prison staff members.

Last year she had a meeting with Donald Trump to discuss the release of Alice Marie Johnson, who was sentenced life in prison for a first-time, non-violent drug offense. Kim Kardashian also visited a women’s detention center to get a better understanding of the day-to-day life of a female inmate.

Kim announced that she planned to work with the White House on passing less harsh sentences, citing the case of Chris Young. Young, who is now her primary point of focus, is currently serving life in prison for drug possession.

Kim Kardashian Flooded W/ Thousands Of Prison Inmate Letters

Kris Jenner Cardi B Kim Kardashian

Reality TV star Kim Kardashian is getting hit up with thousands of prison inmate messages. New reports claim the hip-hop wife has convicts asking for her help in finding freedom amid her support for people like Cyntoia Brown and Alice Marie Johnson.

According to reports, Kim K is being viewed as the godmother of prison reform.

Sources close to Kim tell TMZ … inmates around the country are sending Kim an endless amount of notes from prison, hoping she and her legal team can find a way to get them clemency. We’re told Kim’s also earned a new nickname within the prison system, as both staffers and inmates refer to her as “The Princess of Prison Reform.’ The nickname and letters have some basis in fact … Kim and her team just helped Cyntoia Brown get clemency in Tennessee after 15 years in prison. (TMZ)

Over the past few months, Kim has made headlines for taking aim at prison reform.

As you know, Kim was instrumental in getting elusive prison reform legislation enacted after her meeting with President Trump. CNN’s Van Jones said it squarely … the law would never have been passed but for Kim K. In addition to Cyntoia’s clemency, Kim also played a key role in freeing 63-year-old grandma Alice Marie Johnson and Matthew Charles … two prisoners she mentioned to POTUS during their powwow. (TMZ)

Last night, rap star Drake reacted to Cyntoia Brown receiving clemency in her first-degree murder case.

Yesterday, Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam is commuting Brown’s life sentence to supervised parole.

“This decision comes after careful consideration of what is a tragic and complex case,” Haslam said. “Cyntoia Brown committed, by her own admission, a horrific crime at the age of 16. Yet, imposing a life sentence on a juvenile that would require her to serve at least 51 years before even being eligible for parole consideration is too harsh, especially in light of the extraordinary steps Ms. Brown has taken to rebuild her life. Transformation should be accompanied by hope. So, I am commuting Ms. Brown’s sentence, subject to certain conditions.” (WATE News)
