As the #MeToo era takes its course for victims of sexual abuse, those who are in face of domestic violence are also on the speak up, including high profiled women like Nicki Minaj. On Tuesday, the “Barbie Dreams” rapper took to Instagram to share two clips from her upcoming project, Queen The Documentary. In both clips, Minaj reveals her past experience with domestic violence, which apparently stems from her childhood and lurked into her adulthood.
In the first clip, she recalls her days as a little girl and talks about how she made attempts to protect her mother from the violent doings of her own father. She went on to tie the experience with her current state of mind, which is an overall shield of protection from any potential alike experience.
“I remember when my mother would let my father be violent with her and she always brings up the story, as a little girl I would stand in front of my mother and go like this,” said Minaj putting the gesture of her arms spread in front of her mother in motion. “Maybe some people would describe me as abrasive or bitchy or whatever because I vowed from that age no man would ever abuse me, call me out my name or treat me like that. Then all of a sudden that was my life.”
In the second clip, Minaj goes on to reveal that at one point of her career she was actually in an abusive relationship which left her in creative vain, causing her to lose inspiration and delve into a rather, sunken place.
“Who was I going to inspire when I had nothing in me to give?” said Minaj. “I let one human being make me so low that I didn’t even remember who I was. I was scared to get in the studio. I didn’t believe in myself.”
While the name of the man responsible was not revealed, one of her former mates felt compelled to respond to the viral trailer clip, suggesting the “Chun-Li” spitter is a narcissist and sociopath. Moments after the trailer was released, Meek Mill, who Minaj dated for two years between July 2015 and January 2017, posted a meme on Instagram that overall explains the ways and actions of those who are fond of playing the victim, suggesting he is in a position of a true victim. The Philly rapper captioned the post with a simple, “Lol” which is suggestive it is in response to his ex-girlfriend’s claims that may be directed towards him.
“When cornered, they’ll lash out by claiming that THEY are the real victim,” says the meme. “Their story will detail your drinking problem, depression, jealousy, low self-esteem, financial woes, etc., thereby, gaining the sympathy of their fan club. Meanwhile, YOU will be isolated & confused while this aggressive campaign transpires. And when you emerge, the trap will have been set.”
There is still no certainty as too who Minaj is making reference to, as there is a small tally of possibilities. The revealed trailer is only a tiny peep into the documentary, so there is no telling if the Queens rapper will reveal who, as it undermines the overall purpose of the film.
The premiere date of Queen The Documentary has yet to be announced. But now, Minaj has her fanbase of edge for yet another endeavor lapping on top of her airwaves makes Queen Radio.
