Meek Mill Talks Drake Friendship and Cardi B Collaboration

As he gears up to release his new album Championships on Friday, Meek Mill is in promo mode.

In between appearances on “The Tonight Show” and “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” the Philly rapper paid a visit to Power 106’s “The Cruz Show” where he discussed his renewed friendship with Drake. The former rivals squashed their beef and reunited on stage during Drake’s show at Boston’s TD Garden in September. But the reunion was a long time coming.

“We actually been in contact, probably like a year before that,” he said. “But we was making the right timing and catching up on the right time to make it fully natural and be effective. The message was to send out love and build bridges, and not really separating bridges. You see a lot of bridges being separated in hip-hop all the time and everybody always take things to another level where they can’t be fixed. It was a competitive thing—we had fun. It built us, made us stronger.”

They not only shared the stage in Boston, but also in Meek’s hometown of Philadelphia. “It was exciting. We both had fun,” he added.

During a visit to Ebro Darden on Beats 1, the criminal justice reform activist also spoke about his “On Me” collaboration with Cardi B, which appears on Championships. Despite his breakup with Nicki Minaj, the song had nothing to do with his ex, who happens to be at odds with Cardi.

“Why wouldn’t I have a song with Cardi? I would’ve been did it,” said Meek. “I ain’t on that. I’m on some straight positive get money, doing what I need to do, the way I need to do it, and no emotions with this rap shit. If this is going on, that’s going on. I ain’t got nothing to do with that.”

Meek says he’s past the beef and is all about making money moves. “This Meek Mill and this Bardi right here going to be a movie,” he revealed. “If it had to be and Nicki to get some money, that’s what it’s going to be to get some money. It ain’t really nothing personal.”

In addition to Cardi, Championships arrives Friday featuring the singles “Oodles O’Noodles Babies” and “Uptown Vibes” with Fabolous and Puerto Rican rapper Anuel AA.
