Marvel Comics legend Stan Lee has died. The icon behind everyone’s favorite Marvel superheroes and villains passed away following a medical complication.

According to reports, Lee’s daughter announced his shocking passing Monday morning.

We’re told an ambulance rushed to Lee’s Hollywood Hills home early Monday morning and he was rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. We’re told that’s where he died. Lee had suffered several illnesses over the last year or so — he had a bout of pneumonia and vision issues. Stan started Marvel with Jack Kirby in 1961 with The Fantastic Four. He went on to create Spider-Man, Black Panther, The Incredible Hulk, X-Men, Iron Man and The Avengers. (TMZ)

Earlier this year, Lee joked about not landing a huge cameo in this year’s Black Panther blockbuster.

While speaking with fellow creator Todd McFarlane earlier today at ACE Comic Con in Glendale, Arizona, Lee joked about his upcoming cameo in Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther. “I’m a little disappointed in my Black Panther cameo,” Lee joked. “I had wanted a great fight scene where I fight the Black Panther to a standstill.” (Comic Book)

Stan lost his wife last year from a severe medical complication.

Lee’s wife Joan died in July last year aged 93 after reportedly suffering a stroke. The former hat model married Stan on 5 December, 1947 and the two were married for 69 years. The pair met when Stan was supposed to take her friend on a blind date. (Metro)
