Lil Wayne’s ‘Tha Carter V’ Debuts at No. 1

Lil Wayne lands his fourth No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with Tha Carter V, earning the third-largest week for an album in 2018. The long-awaited set from the Young Money rapper sold 480,000 equivalent album units in the week ending Oct. 4, of which 141,000 were traditional sales.

Additionally, Tha Carter V scores the second-biggest streaming week ever for an album, with 433 million on-demand audio streams in its first week. Drake’s Scorpion holds the largest single-week streaming week ever with 745.9 million on-demand streams.

This marks Wayne’s fourth No. 1 album following 2011’s Tha Carter IV (two weeks at No. 1), 2010’s I Am Not a Human Being (one week at No. 1), and 2008’s Tha Carter III (three weeks at No. 1).

Tha Carter V earns the third-largest sales week for an album in 2018, following Drake’s Scorpion (732,000) and Travis Scott’s Astroworld (537,000).

Following Weezy is Logic’s YSIV, which enters at No. 2 with 167,000 units (122,000 in traditional sales). It is the Maryland rapper’s second album to reach the top two in 2018, following March’s Bobby Tarantino II.

Kevin GatesLuca Brasi 3 opens at No. 4 with 78,000 units (18,000 traditional). It marks Gates’ third top 10 effort following 2017’s By Any Means 2 (No. 4) and 2016’s Islah (No. 2).

Elsewhere, Drake’s Scorpion falls 4-5 (56,000), Eminem’s Kamikaze dips 3-6 (50,000), Travis Scott’s Astroworld moves 5-7 (49,000), and Post Malone’s beerbongs & bentleys slides 6-8 (42,000). XXXTentacion’s ? reenters the top 10 with 32,000 units.
