Lil Nas X has found himself on top of the Billboard Hot 100 for a fifth straight week with his country and Hip-Hop banger “Old Town Road.” For his first televised performance, X hit Showtime’s Desus & Mero.

Before he hit the stage, Lil Nas X reflected on how originally being stifled by the Billboard country charts created an alternative lane to success, which has become better.

“Every day is like, OK, everything was a dream . . . That terrible situation ended up helping me,” X shared.

Lil Nas X’s Billboard dominance was a strong enough force to resist the rocket ship release from Taylor Swift “ME!,” which landed at number two after a debut at number 98. Chart Data details X has three times the points that Swift’s single has, so even at the number two slot, “ME!” has a lot of work to do.
