Jussie Smollett returned to court Monday morning in Chicago to enter not guilty pleas to renewed charges which alleged he staged a racist and homophobic attack against himself.

The former Empire star appeared at the Cook County courthouse with his lawyer Tina Glandian, who entered not guilty please to each of the six counts. She also requested Judge James B. Linn to stop the case, WGN Chicago reports.

Smollett pleaded not guilty to 16 counts last year before in a twist the case was dismissed by the office of Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx. The case is now being handled by Special Prosecutor Dan Webb who was appointed to represent the state. Webb is also investigating Foxx’s office and how they handled the case.

Back in January of 2019, Smollett states he was attacked by two masked men who covered him in bleach, put a noose around his neck and used President Trump’s “Make America Great Again” slogan during the assault. Those two men are Abimbola “Abel” Osundairo and Olabinjo “Ola” Osundairo, who state Smollett paid them to stage the attack. If the case goes to trial, the two will likely be the state’s witnesses. Both brothers were present in court this morning.

Smollett is due back in court on March 18, his representation states he has no intention to plead during the case.
