Rapper and former member of the Fugees, Pras Michel, was found guilty in a political conspiracy case. The case centered around his involvement in a scheme to illegally funnel millions of dollars into the United States presidential election of 2012.

According to court documents, Michel worked with a Malaysian businessman named Jho Low to make illegal contributions to a pro-Obama super PAC. The scheme involved using straw donors, who would give money to the super PAC on behalf of Low, thus disguising the true source of the funds.

The evidence presented during the trial included wiretapped phone conversations, emails, and bank records, which showed Michel’s direct involvement in the conspiracy. In addition to his role in the illegal contributions, Michel was also found to have lied to the Federal Election Commission (FEC) about the true source of the donations.

Michel, who had pleaded not guilty, maintained his innocence throughout the trial. However, the jury ultimately found him guilty on all counts, including conspiracy, making false statements to the FEC, and obstruction of justice.

The verdict is a significant blow to Michel’s career and legacy, as he was not only a member of the popular hip-hop group the Fugees but also a successful solo artist and producer. He now faces a potential prison sentence of up to 10 years.

Michel’s case highlights the ongoing issue of money in politics and the lengths to which some individuals will go to influence elections. It also serves as a reminder that no one, regardless of their fame or status, is above the law.
