Doja Cat Responds To Racism Allegations

Doja Cat's Father Reportedly Claims Story About Them Not Knowing Each Other is 'Made Up'

Two days ago, Doja Cat was catching heat on social media for participating in racist video chats and creating racially insensitive music in her past. In a late Sunday Instagram post, Doja Cat is acknowledging her mistakes and issuing an apology although she denies ever taking part in any racist conversations.

The “Say So” rapper took to social media after the firestorm to admit she made a mistake in participating in the Alt-Right video chats and says that the song she made that uses an Alt-Right slur against police brutality victims was a creative decision that didn’t land how she intended.

“I’ve used public chat rooms to socialize since I was a child. I shouldn’t have been on some of those chat room sites, but I personally have never been involved in any racist conversations. I’m sorry to everyone I offended,” Doja wrote on social media.

“As for the old song that’s resurfaced, it was in no way tied to anything outside of my own personal experience. It was written in response to people who often used that term to hurt me. I made an attempt to flip its meaning, but recognize that it was a bad decision to use the term in my music.”

The 25-year-old bi-racial music artist had gone silent on social media as her name trended on twitter under the hashtag #DojaCatisOverParty. Doja is half-white and half South African which she acknowledges in her post.

This controversy comes just as she earns her first Billboard number 1 record with the “Say So Remix” featuring Nicki Minaj. Doja had previously come under fire for homophobic slurs used on Twitter which she initially defended but later apologized after she saw the impact that her words had.

“I understand my influence and impact and I’m taking this all very seriously,” Doja said of the recent controversy. “That’s not my character, and I’m determined to show that to everybody moving forward.”
