Common Returns with ‘HER Love’ Featuring Daniel Caesar

Common is back.

Nearly two years since his last album, the Chicago lyricist returns with “HER Love,” a collaboration with Daniel Caesar that serves as a sequel to 1994’s classic “I Used to Love H.E.R.” Over a previously unreleased J Dilla beat, Common pens a love letter to hip-hop, while cleverly shouting out today’s rappers including A$AP Rocky, Cardi B, Lil Uzi Vert, and Kendrick Lamar.

“Through the struggle, you taught us to Nipsey Hussle / That’s why we all love you,” he raps. “I’m forever yours to the tik tok / I’m still talking ’bout you, hip-hop.”

Additionally, Common has debuted a powerful video for the song, which features Dwele and celebrates his love of hip-hop and black women.

After “HER Love,” Common plans to drop the Swizz Beatz-assisted “Hercules” next month, followed by his album Let Love Have the Last Word in August. During a listening session last month, Common previewed the project, which features contributions from Karriem Riggins, Jill Scott, Leon Bridges, and BJ the Chicago Kid.

The album has also inspired Common’s new memoir of the same name, which was released in May and made The New York Times Best Seller list.
