Hollywood superstar Chris Rock isn’t coming to the Academy Awards’ rescue. The veteran comedian has shut down the idea of replacing Kevin Hart to host next month’s Oscars ceremony.

According to reports, Rock revealed his disinterest during a Monday night outing at the New York Film Critics Circle Awards dinner in New York City.

“If it was five years ago, I could say something really offensive and funny right now, but I can’t do that anymore, so…heyyyy!” Rock cracked, as he took the podium at the NYFCC Awards where he was on hand to present director Bo Burnham with the award for best first film for “Eighth Grade.” … “Steve Martin is here. You should host the Oscars. You’re the best,” Rock said. “Steve Martin should host the Oscars! Because I’m not doing it, goddammit! You’re not getting me.” (Variety)

This week, Kevin Hart went to his “Straight From the Hart” SiriusXM broadcast to apologize to the LGBTQ community for his past anti-gay tweets.

“I will say this, and I want to make this very clear. And I’m going to say it just in case you guys try to take this sh*t and chop it up, I will rebuttal with this f*cking piece right here. Once again, Kevin Hart apologizes for his remarks that hurt members of the LGBTQ community. I apologize.” (“Straight From the Hart”)

Hart even dug deeper by analyzing his original tweets where he dished on gays.

“I really had to dive into the whole thing, even the tweets,” Hart explained. “These weren’t words that I said to gay individuals. I didn’t say these words to people, at the time, this was our dumb asses on Twitter going back and forth with each other. We thought it was okay to talk like that, because that’s how we talked to one another. In that, you go, f*ck! This is wrong now.” The comedian went on to acknowledge in more detail how the social landscape has changed: “Now we’re in a space where I’m around people of the LGBTQ community, and I’m now aware of how these words make them feel, and why they say, ‘That shit hurt because of what I’ve been through.’ (The Hollywood Reporter)

Despite receiving some celebrity support, Hart isn’t expected to host next month’s Academy Awards show.

Despite the efforts of former host Ellen DeGeneres, Kevin Hart will not reemerge as host of the 91st Academy Awards, multiple sources are telling Deadline. While this situation is still fluid and he could possibly change his mind, this looks like his final answer, I’m told. (Deadline)
