6ix9ine Denied Early Prison Release Due to Coronavirus

6ix9ine will have to wait until August before he steps outside prison walls.

A judge has denied the rapper’s request to be released from prison early due to the coronavirus pandemic. Tekashi’s lawyers had requested that he serve the remainder of his prison sentence at home, citing serious concerns for Tekashi’s health.

According to TMZ, the judge says the court lacks the legal authority to grant the request. However, he may still have a shot if he files his request with the Bureau of Prisons.

The judge also noted that if there had been a global pandemic and he was aware of Tekashi’s health history at the time of his sentencing, the court would have allowed the final four months to be served in home confinement.

Tekashi’s attorney, Lance Lazzaro, wrote a letter to the judge earlier this month saying he is in danger of catching coronavirus behind bars, which could become serious because of his asthma. He was reportedly diagnosed with bronchitis and sinusitis late last year and was hospitalized for treatment.

6ix9ine is currently expected to be released on Aug. 2 after serving a 24-month sentence.
