In what’s already been a huge week for professional wrestling, West drops off a quick 10-minute EP to warm everyone up ahead of 4th Rope’s biggest event yet with the east coast hip hop styles that’ve made GxFR so beloved in the past decade & one that I might like more than the EP he put out 5 months ago. “Health Science” featuring Brother Tom Sos that the homie Cee Gee slickly laced lets off shots to the head as if it’s personal leading into Brother Tom Sos sticking around for “Gumbo Yaya” having somewhat over a funkier vibe to the beat talking about them living it & having it for a grip. “East Miami” featuring Estee Nack strips the drums again to portray the gangsta lifestyle for 4 & a half minutes just before “Bury Me with a Stove” featuring Estee Nack talks about hustlin’ even in the afterlife.
The only single “Outlander” hits the backend of the 12th installment of the Hitler Wears Hermes saga referencing the late WWE Hall of Famer, former 3-time WWE United States Champion, WWE Tag Team Champion & WCW World Television Champion “Rowdy” Roddy Piper showing some jazzier influences this time around prior to the drumless “Dump World” featuring Stove God Cooks taking shots at those who failed at throwing dirt on their names.
Hitler Wears Hermes XI last Devil’s Night was a huge indication that the infamous series can carry on right when everyone initially thought Hitler Wears Hermes X would be the end of it & if anything, Hitler Wears Hermes XII feels more like a sequel to Peace FLYGOD other than both of Brother Tom Sos’ appearances primarily because of Estee Nack & Stove God Cooks being featured all over it like they were on Peace FLYGOD in addition to the strong production during the 43 & a half minutes.

He even formed his own independent circuit promotion 4th Rope last fall & has been seeing quite a bit of success with their Heels Have Eyes series of shows, crowning HoG Crown Jewel Champion & RoW Heavyweight Champion Zilla Fatu as the inaugural 4th Rope Heavyweight Champion in November & later the current TNA World Tag Team Champions in their 3rd reign The Hardy Boyz as the inaugural 4th Rope World Tag Team Champions last month. However, it was just announced on Instagram that 4th Rope will be holding a joint pay-per-view with Game Changer Wrestling (GCW) on April 18 called For the Culture. It should also be noted that For the Culture takes place a day before WrestleMania XLI & precedes GCW’s upcoming joint pay-per-view with Juggalo Championship Wrestling (JCW) at the Gathering of Legends or the 25th annual Gathering of the Juggalos later on this summer, having already announced JCW vs. GCW several months ago.

The title track featuring Benny the Butcher, Boldy James, Conway the Machine & Stove God Cook$ pushes towards the final moments of Still Praying with this insane 7-minute Griselda posse cut while the song “Underground King” featuring Rome Streetz returns to the boom bap talking about how both of them are the greatest of all shit talkers. “LeSalle Station” properly finishes the album by reflecting on all the people that he’s lost back to back.
Coming off the most personal project that West has ever made Hitler Wears Hermes XI only 24 hours ago, he’s continuing the hot streak with a follow-up to And Then You Pray for Me that I think people are gonna like a lot more than the predecessor. The production is rooted in the traditional boom bap sound Griselda is known for in contrast to the trap heavy influences of last time & the guests all maintain his level on the mic.

Fans have come to expect a FLYGOD release every October, you can set your watch by it. Yet, every October Westside Gunn still manages to deliver the expected-in an unexpected way.
After the release of 11 (the art piece, before the art piece) on Halloween, Westside Gunn has now released Still Praying (the highly-anticipated follow-up to And Then You Pray For Me); which features guest appearances from the greatest sh*t-talker of all time, DJ Drama (AKA Drop Cena), Benny The Butcher, Conway The Machine, Boldy James, Stove God Cooks, Rome Streetz and production from Conductor Williams and Daringer among others.
With DJ Drama as narrator, Still Praying is everything you want and more from a new FLYGOD drop. Still Praying sounds like fresh money and opulence, with Gunn describing wearing “thousand dollar swim trunks, can’t even swim” on “Dr. Britt Baker,” while acknowledging he has FLYGOD problems; which consist of “being fly as LaGuardia,” eating so much lobster it feels greedy, and falling asleep and waking up in the Penthouse suite of the Waldorf spooning a sawed-off shotgun. In other words, just a day in the life of the FLYGOD.
“If it ain’t Griselda it don’t mean nothing.” Still Praying brings Griselda back together in a major way. On “Free Shots” featuring Conway The Machine, DJ Drama recommends “blinking twice if you’re in danger” on what feels like a new and improved Hall & Nash track. On the album’s epic title track, Gunn reunites GXFR to spin the block for a rap stars x drug mixer, that finds Conway dropping dimes like a Brady spiral, Stove God invoking Virgil’s spirit, and Benny detailing declining a sit-down with Trump on the eve of the Presidential election.

Westside Gunn puts an exclamation point on the week, and shifts into 4th Rope mode on 11.2.24, as his now official wrestling promotion initiative makes history and takes over Chicago for the Heels Have Eyes 3 entertainment extravaganza. Heels Have Eyes merges all of Gunn’s loves (4th Rope highlights Gunn’s love of wrestling through the lens of art, fashion and music) and the third installment promises to be the best rendition yet.
