On this date in 1997, the Hip Hop mogul formerly known as Puff Daddy put an album together with the entire Bad Boy Hip Hop roster and dubbed them “The Family” and released the label’s only collaborative effort, Puff Daddy and The Family’s No Way Out on the Bad Boy imprint.

Less than a year after the untimely death of the Notorious B.I.G., Diddy, who was then known as “Puff Daddy”, along with Ma$e, Black Rob, Loon and a few other Bad Boys for this monumental album.

The Grammy Award-winning album went platinum in one year with the help from tracks like “All About The Benjamins (Remix)”, “Been Around The World,” and “I’ll Be Missing You” featuring Phil Collins, dedicated to the late executive producer of the album and co-architect of the Bad Boy legacy, Notorious B.I.G.

Today In Hip Hop History: The L.O.X. Dropped Their Second Album ‘We Are The Streets’ 24 Years Ago

tumblr bdd0e9b842a85065ce39d8e7545ba2c1 8530286b 500

On this date at the top of the 21st century, legendary Yonkers trio The L.O.X.(Living Off Experience) released their sophomore full-length LP appropriately titled We Are The Streets on the Ruff Ryders/Interscope imprint.

Produced primarily by Double R in-house producer Swizz Beatz, We Are The Streets saw substantially more commercial success than its predecessor Money, Power And Respect, which solidified The L.O.X.’s hardcore Hip Hop fanbase. This sophomore album secured The l.O.X.’s tenure in the game despite their fallout with Sean “Diddy” Combs and Bad Boy Records not long after. The album was propelled by hit singles, but ironically the production of two of the three main singles was outsourced; ‘Ryde Or Die Bitch”, which was produced by Timbaland, and “Recognize”, which was produced by DJ Premier.

The album saw a short tenure on the Billboard charts, reaching Number 5 on Billboard 200 and Number 2 on US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums.

Salute to Jada, Sheek Styles, Swizz, Eve, Dee, Waah, and the entire Ruff Ryder camp for this crucial piece of Hip Hop history!

Today in Hip-Hop History: The L.O.X.’s Debut Album ‘Money, Power & Respect’ Turns 25 Years Old!

tumblr 15bbc52c6ef8c6de0fd223b37f56caf4 cf2297c4 500

On this date in 1998, Sheek Louch, Styles P., and Jadakiss, who are better known as the rap trio The L.O.X. (Living Off Experience), dropped their debut album on then-Puff Daddy’s steadily growing Bad Boy label. Following in the footsteps of artists like Craig Mack and Notorious B.I.G., the Yonkers collective had to go the extra length to prove themselves worthy to carry the Bad Boy legacy and that they have done and continue to do.

With production on this project from the likes of Swizz Beatz, D. Dot, Dame Grease, and Mr. Combs himself, there was very little chance that this project flop. Even with the shiny suits, the lyrical content and dexterity were on point from all three members, solidifying their slots as lyrical legends in their own rights coming into the new millennium. Tracks like “If You Think I’m Jiggy” and the album’s epic title track were both perfect fusions of street anthems with crossover appeal, which allowed the LOX a fanbase on both sides of the mainstream “boundary”.

Thanks to Diddy, D-Block, and the entire Bad Boy staff who helped to put together this timeless classic!

[WATCH] Jadakiss Shuns Jim Jones’ Challenge For 1-on-1 Verzuz Battle

Screen Shot 2022 03 03 at 8.24.25 AM

Hands down, the most legendary battle to hit the VERZUZ stage was between The L.O.X. and Dipset, which still has some of the members from both sides answering questions about last summer’s face-off. Not long after the battle, Dipset capo Jim Jones sent out a challenge to Jadakiss, crowned the unofficial M.V.P. of the VERZUZ between the two crews.

“I would want to have a Verzuz with Jada. Solo. He has to deal with me on my terms. He better be prepared,” said Jones. “When it comes to a top three, I don’t really have a list. I just got real smoke with Jada.”

Brushing off what seemed like a valid challenge, Jada said, “I heard him say that but I didn’t entertain it. I don’t think Verzuz would entertain it. I don’t even think the people would want to see that.”

Jada said he would be open to a fitness battle against the “We Fly High” rapper, admitting that promoting health and wellness would be a positive challenge for them and the fans.

Today in Hip-Hop History: Jadakiss’ Debut Album ‘Kiss Tha Game Goodbye’ Turns 20 Years Old!

tumblr pvuh1g4NWH1t1yehoo1 1280

After the landslide win and overwhelming praise as one of the games’ Top 5 DOA, what better time to celebrate Jada’s 20-year-old debut LP!

On this date two decades ago, Jason Phillips aka Jadakiss released his first full-length studio album Kiss Tha Game Goodbye on the Ruff Ryders/Interscope imprint.

Regarded as one of the most anticipated releases within the month of the 9/11 tragedy(which also includes Jay-Z’s Blueprint and Fabolous’ debut Ghetto Fabolous), Jadakiss’ premiere project Kiss Tha Game Goodbye provides a peek into the L.O.X.’s star emcee and the album succession that has led him all the way to the offices of Roc Nation, where he is now on the roster. It was also proof that an emcee whose career began on a mixtape could actually morph into a full music career.

Singles from Jada’s certified gold debut include the album’s lead single “Knock Yourself Out”, the anthemic “We Gonna Make It” featuring L.O.X./D-Block cohort Styles P and other appearances including labelmate DMX, Snoop Dogg, the late Nate Dogg, and even Swizz Beatz ex-wife Mashonda.

Salute to Jada, Swizz, The L.O.X., Pharrell, DJ Premier, Just Blaze, and everyone else who took part in making this album a part of Hip Hop history!

[WATCH] Jadakiss Gets Verzuz “MVP” Praise After LOX Win, Closes Battle with “Who Shot Ya” Freestyle

Verzuz The Lox Dipset Jadakiss

The LOX VS Dipset Verzuz Battle was one for the history books.

A win for the culture of Hip Hop didn’t minimize the victory The LOX took from Dipset at Madison Square Garden last night in front of a capacity crowd in NYC’s Madison Square Garden. The man of the hour was Jadakiss, who claimed he wanted to stay home and watch The Honeymooners, but just threw on his boots, grabbed some bread and came out to claim victory.

Jada closed out the landslide victory with a 2010 freestyle for DJ Green Lantern over Biggie’s “Who Shot Ya” instrumental.

Jadakiss also became the first rapper to win two Verzuz battles, which also made many in attendance and on social media to give Al Qaeda Jada his MVP status at the end of the festivities.

Last night showed what artist development and years of performing together can bring. Both New York rap groups brought their best efforts.

However, it was clear that Jadakiss, Sheek Louch and Styles P of The LOX, came war ready. While Dipset members Camron, Jim Jones and Jules Santana had their list of hits and mega anthems, it was hard to compete with the Yonkers trio.

What was your favorite highlight moments of The LOX Vs Dipset Verzuz battle? Share your thoughts below.
