Terry Crews On Shower Debate: ‘If you ain’t been sweating, you don’t need to shower’

Terry Crews On Shower Debate: 'If you ain't been sweating, you don't need to shower'

Terry Crews is the latest public figure to weigh in on the shower debate and shared that he showers frequently because he “spends so much time sweating.”

“I took three today,” Crews said in an interview with Access Hollywood. “Three. Today. See, me and Dwayne [Johnson] are right. I took one in the morning, after the workout, and then I took one before I got here. And then I took one in between acts.”

The actor is referencing The Rock who tweeted that he’s “the opposite of a ‘not washing themselves’ celeb,” while sharing that he showers three times a day.

The 53-year-old says his fitness regime makes regular showers necessary. “I love to shower. I love to, because I spend so much time sweating,” he continued.

“First of all, if you ain’t been sweating, you don’t need to shower,” Crews said. “But I spend all day sweating, all the time, running and working out, and it ain’t nice. My wife is like, ‘Babe, babe, babe.’ I’m Mr. Old Spice, you know what I mean? So I’ve got to get clean.”

Terry Crews Creates More Controversy With “C.O.O.N.” Acronym

Terry Crews Gets Dragged for '#BlackLivesBetter' Comment

After almost two months of fighting off Uncle Tom sentiments, actor Terry Crews is back in hot water with the Black community after a controversial tweet, in which the White Girls actor says “coon” is an acronym for “Conquer Our Own Negativity.”

This demeaning tweet came right on the heels of his last tweet, in which Crews said that you cannot defeat White supremacy without White people.

Crews doubled down on his statement, even after the backlash from the community, stating on The View, “We have people who have decided who is going to be Black and who’s not. And I simply because I have a mixed-race wife (Rebecca King-Crews), have been discounted from the conversation a lot of the time, by very, very militant movements, the Black power movement. I’ve been called all kinds of things, like an Uncle Tom, simply because I’m successful, simply because I’ve worked my way out of Flint, Michigan.”

Terry Crews Gets Dragged for ‘#BlackLivesBetter’ Comment

Terry Crews Gets Dragged for '#BlackLivesBetter' Comment

Terry Crews is once again in trouble for giving an unpopular opinion on the Black Lives Matter movement. The Everybody Hates Chris star tweeted that black lives shouldn’t be held higher than those of other races when the movement ends. “If you are a child of God, you are my brother and sister. I have a family of every race, creed, and ideology,” he tweeted on Tuesday.

“We must ensure #blacklivesmatter doesn’t morph into #blacklivesbetter.” Twitter users immediately clapped back at Crews, stating the movement is about being treated equally. “We’re so far from that bridge, Terry,” Martin Luther King Jr.’s daughter Bernice King tweeted. “#BlackLivesMatter is, in part, a rallying cry and a protest slogan to galvanize people into doing the justice work needed to derail the deaths, dehumanization, and destruction of Black lives that racism causes. Justice is not a competition.”

Another user added, “Gah. You could have left out that last sentence. No one wants to be better. We want to be treated fairly and equal.”

“can we climb the mountain that it will take to make Black lives actually matter before you start worrying about a slippery slope on the other side of it?” commented another.

Crews have not publicly responded to the backlash. Earlier this month, the White Chicks actor caused chaos online when he commented about “Black supremacy.” Crews spoke out about the ongoing protests and called for equality, writing, “Defeating White supremacy without White people creates Black supremacy. Equality is the truth.”

“Like it or not, we are all in this together,” he added. Crews’ former co-star, Tyler James Williams replied saying he has “love” for Crews but that he was hurting the Black Lives Matter cause. Reps for Crews said they wouldn’t be commenting, and reflected his past statement on the matter in which he cleared up his statement about “Black supremacy.”

“I was not saying Black supremacy exists because it doesn’t,” he tweeted in June. “I am saying if both Black and Whites don’t continue to work together– bad attitudes and resentments can create a dangerous self-righteousness. That’s all.”.

Here’s to hoping that Terry Crews can think before he tweets next time before it ends up being another episode of Everybody Hates Terry.

Terry Crews Clarifies ‘Black Supremacy’ Remark: ‘Because I Have a Mixed Race Wife I Have Been Discounted From the Conversation’

Terry Crews Clarifies 'Black Supremacy' Remark: 'Because I Have a Mixed Race Wife I Have Been Discounted From the Conversation'

Terry Crews put his foot in his mouth last week when he made controversial comments about the rise of black supremacy as a result of beating white supremacy without white people.

“Defeating White supremacy without White people creates Black supremacy. Equality is the truth. Like it or not, we are all in this together.”

The 51-year-old actor added, “Any Black person who calls me a coon or and Uncle Tom for promoting EQUALITY is a Black Supremist [sic], because they have determined who’s Black and who is not.”

Crews was dragged and even his Everybody Hates Chris co-star, Tyler James Williams, had to gently check him real quick.

The White Chicks starred appeared on The Talk on Tuesday and clarified his tweets. “I compare that tweet to cussing in church. What’s wild is you have the message but if you’re cussing in church nobody is really hearing what you’re saying. The cuss word I used in this instance is black supremacy. What I said was defeating white supremacy without white people could create black supremacy. In the black race in black america we have gatekeepers. We have people who have decided that who is going to be black and who is not. And I simply – because I have a mixed race wife – have been discounted from the conversation a lot of times by very, very militant movements, black power movement.”

Terry Crews reflected on the backlash he received from the Black community and argued that we can agree to disagree. “I’ve been called all kinds of things like an uncle tom simply because I’m successful, simply because I worked my way out of Flint, Michigan. The problem with that is black people have different views. It’s funny because when you’re white you can be republican, libertarian, democrat, you can be anything. But if you’re black you have to be one thing. Even Joe Biden said “hey man if you don’t vote for me you ain’t even black”. And so this blackness is always judged, it’s always put up against this thing. And I’m going that right there is a supremacist move. You have now put yourself above other black people and then I got told it couldn’t exist.”

He went on to explain the 1994 Rwanda Genocide which was a civil war between Hutu and Tutsi ethnic groups. Terry slammed people who don’t believe it can happen in the United States. “I’m here to tell you that’s the first mistake. Anytime anyone says “oh that could never happen here” that’s exactly when it starts to happen.”

Terry Crews acknowledges that he may not have properly articulated his thoughts, but he wants the conversation of Black elitism to be had more often. “I can’t really regret it because I really want the dialogue to come out. Maybe there’s another term that might be better where as separatist or elitist or something like that. But the thing is I’ve experienced supremacy even growing up. I’ve had black people tell me that the white man is the devil. I’ve experienced whole organizations that have viewed themselves because of the suffering of black people that they have decided that now we are not equal, we are better. I think that’s a mistake, I’m trying to tell you just the mentality. What we’re trying to do a lot of the times with the social and economic and political issues we have right now, we’re providing those kind of answers. But this is a spiritual problem. Supremacy can’t really happen but spiritually it can. In your head you can look at yourself and you can develop a dangerous self righteousness that could really hurt what we’re trying to do right now. We have to include this white voice, this hispanic voice, this asian voice, we have to include it right now. Because if we don’t it’s going to slip into something that we are really not prepared for.”

Tyler James Williams Responds to Terry Crews’ ‘Black Supremacy’ Comment

We were introduced to the on-screen, father-son duo of Terry Crews and Tyler James Williams by watching Everybody Hates Chris once it aired in 2005. Since then, fans continue to keep up with actors.

Recently, Terry Crews has been catching a lot of heat for his recent remarks regarding, “Black supremacy.”

“Defeating White supremacy without White people creates Black supremacy. Equality is the truth,” Crews penned. “Like it or not, we are all in this together.”

Although the actor has been under fire for the comment, Tyler James Williams has stepped in with a different approach. “Terry, brother, I know your heart and you know I have love for you and always will. No one is calling 4 black supremacy & the narrative that we are hurts our cause & our people. We’re just vigorously vetting our ‘allies’ because time & time again they have failed us in the past,” Wiliiams wrote on Twitter.

“Our people are tired of white people who put on a good face a claim they ‘arnt racist’ while operating and benefiting from the privilege of a clearly racist system. We’re not trying to do this alone. We KNOW we can’t. But we refuse to have allies who won’t go the distance,” he continued.

Williams concluded his Tweet series by making his intentions clear on why he addressed the situation. “I’m not trying to call you out @terrycrews. You know it’s all love always. But we’re rightfully angry right now and fed up with anyone not with our cause wholeheartedly. I don’t want to see that energy pointed your way or diverted from the cause.”

Well said Tyler.

Dear Terry Crews, “Black Supremacy” is Not The By-Product of a Post-White Supremacy Society

This morning, actor Terry Crews was trending on Twitter for all the wrong reasons. The America’s Got Talent host was on Twitter Sunday night.

Apparently, Terry was feeling some type of way with all the solidarity happening with folks of color across the globe. He felt the need to take to Twitter to express an unwanted and guilt-laden perspective.

Upon later explanation by Crews, 51, he was trying to say that if white and black people don’t work together, “bad attitudes and resentments can create a dangerous self-righteousness.”

Following the death of George Floyd on May 25, Crews shared an emotional video to Instagram. There he told his followers that he saw himself in the 46-year-old, who died when former police officer Derek Chauvin put a knee on his neck for eight minutes.

“First of all my heart is broken,” he said the video. “George Floyd looks like me. George Floyd could be me. I could easily, easily be that man on the ground with that police officer’s knee on my neck. That could easily be me.”

Pro-Black Is Not Anti-White

There is a popular misconception that being proud to be Black means that you are anti-white. This is not the case.

However, what that statement reflects is a truly enslaved mentality because you cannot operate with that suspicion unless you are co-opted by white supremacy.

White guilt is defined as the feelings of shame and remorse some white people experience when they recognize the legacy of racism and racial injustice and perceive the ways they have benefited from it.

With his statement, Terry Crews is signaling that he has internalized white guilt for white people even though he is not white himself. All one needs to do is look at the front lines of every protest across the globe and white allies are there.

Allies who see their privilege as an invaluable asset to people of color are appreciated by the protest movement. Whether that involvement stems from guilt is a personal motivation, however, the action is needed and respected.

For Crews to create some mythological vacuum where black people are working in a silo for justice is not even close to reality. How he could justify fearing “black supremacy” when the protests are only initial surface pressure shows he doesn’t understand the true goal: system reform.

Feelings on either side will have to subside to doing what is right and if an ego or two is bruised in the process it is a small fee to pay for justice.

Terry Crews is still caught up in the rapture of Black unity optics in a society still encapsulated in white supremacy. If he wasn’t, he would count the white allies in a sea of black faces instead of lamenting how Black the movement looks and feels.

Terry Crews Finally Stands With Gabrielle Union After ‘AGT’ Uproar

America's Got Talent - Season 14

Source: NBC / Getty

Terry Crews found himself in the center of criticism after he essentially left his former America’s Got Talent co-star Gabrielle Union out in the cold. Crews, in a bid to stay uninvolved with Union’s issues with the NBC show, appeared to lack compassion but has since apologized to the actress for not standing with her initially.

In a series of tweets, the actor and former NFL player laid out how shortsighted he was in not supporting Union.

“I told @KevinHart4real a while ago, he needed 2 ‘acknowledge the pain of other people.’ Right now I have to do the same thing. I want to apologize for the comments I made. I realize there are a lot of Black women hurt and let down by what I said and also by what I didn’t say,” Crews opened in a string of tweets.

He continued with, ” hear you, I respect you and understand you. I am sorry and I am here to support you. I spoke from my own personal point of view without first taking into consideration someone else’s experience. I allowed disrespectful comments directed at me and my family to cause me to react angrily instead of responding thoughtfully. This certainly caused more harm, and it is my hope that I can amend any pain I have caused to those who were hurt by my words.”

Crews finally mentioned Union after the long preamble.

“@itsgabrielleu, I want you to know it was never my intention to invalidate your experience— but that is what I did. I apologize. You have been through a lot in this business, and with that I empathize with the struggle toward fairness and equality in the workplace,” Crews wrote.

The apology concluded with, “@itsgabrielleu You are a role model to the entire black community and In my desire to be professionally neutral as your co-worker, I should have at the very least understood you just needed my support. Sincerely, Terry Crews.”

Fans on Twitter didn’t buy the apology after Crews basically mocked his detractors after failing to support Union in the same way she did for him during his #MeToo reveal. Marc Lamont Hill noted via Twitter that the apology seemed like the work of a publicist and not sincere words. It also appears that Union’s husband, retired NBA star, Dwyane Wade, isn’t impressed.

Terry Crews Says People ‘Weren’t So Nice’ to Kevin Hart After Hearing About His Car Accident

Superstar comedian Kevin Hart has begun his long run to recovery after a major California car crash and is receiving support from his friend Terry Crews.

Speaking with US Weekly, Crews acknowledged the treatment Hart received after the news of his accident hit the Internet.

“There were some people who weren’t so nice. There were a lot of people that were happy he got into the accident,” Crews said. “It made no sense to me, but that’s human nature. But I’m here to tell him and that’s why I wanted to say, ‘Hey, man. I’m here for you. I got your back.’ Believe me, most of Hollywood and most people I know are supporting Kevin. Really, really pushing for his speedy recovery.”

Recent reports state while Hart had a successful surgery there is still a long road of recovery in the form of physical therapy. His wife, Eniko Hart, told TMZ Hart is “going to be just fine.”

“Basically, right now, Kevin’s gonna have to rebuild his life somewhat,” Crews added. “It may be a little different for Kevin from here on out. I understand that, I feel that. He probably feels very alone right now.

“One thing I do know is that very few people would survive an accident that horrific. The fact that he survived … I was just like, ‘Oh, my God.’ Amazing.’”

Terry Crews Confirms ‘White Chicks’ Sequel

Its been 15 years since White Chicks premiered in theaters, and it looks like a follow-up is in the works.

Terry Crews was a guest on Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live, when the host asked about the possibility for a second installment of the classic Marlon and Shawn Wayans-directed film. I actually got with Shawn and he was like ‘Man we doing it, we’re getting it going,’” he said. “15 years ago as of this month! I’m staying in shape just for this movie.”

Crews also stopped by The Talk and was asked which song he would sing his heart out to in the sequel. “I think the modern day of [“A Thousand Miles”] would be Carly Rae Jepsen “Call Me Maybe,”‘ he said. “I don’t know the lyrics to the thing but I would definitely do the whitest white girl song you would ever see.”

The original movie follows the story of two police officers who go undercover as white chicks to complete a drug bust. The ending left room for a decent follow-up plot.

Wale Checks Terry Crews For Liam Neeson Comments: “Na. No. Nope. Liam’s Trash”

Wale

Maybach Music Group’s Wale isn’t here for defending Liam Neeson. The hip-hop veteran has spoken out after actor Terry Crews appeared to show sympathy for the Taken star following comments he made about wanting to kill a black man.

Ralph Folarin hopped on Twitter this week to check Crews and remind fans Neeson is done-done.

The Washington, DC native’s comments ultimately sparked a brief exchange between himself and Terry.

This week, comedian DL Hughley expressed his personal issues with Liam’s controversial remarks.

Social media almost immediately exploded with mixed reactions to Neeson’s comments.

In a new interview, Neeson admitted he wanted to take out a “black bastard” following a friend getting raped.

“She handled the situation of the rape in the most extraordinary way,” Neeson said during the interview, which can be read in full here. “But my immediate reaction was … did she know who it was? No. What colour were they? She said it was a black person. … I went up and down areas with a cosh, hoping I’d be approached by somebody. I’m ashamed to say that, and I did it for maybe a week – hoping some [Neeson gestures air quotes with his fingers] ‘black bastard’ would come out of a pub and have a go at me about something, you know? So that I could kill him.” (The Independent)
