Teflon Enlists DJ Premier & Jazimoto To Produce “2 Sides of Every Story”, First Album In 26 Years (Album Review)

This is the sophomore album from Brownsville emcee Teflon. Coming up as an associate of M.O.P., he would also make his presence known during the summer of 1997 by dropping the full-length debut My Will to moderate reception & returning 9 years later in the form of the debut mixtape Bad News. However, it’s been another 17 years & Tef’s returning by offering 2 Sides to Every Story, choosing only 2 people behind the boards to handle the musical soundscapes.

After the “2 Sides” intro, the first song “Out the Gate” is a sample-infused boom bap opener produced by DJ Premier going ape shit from the start like it ain’t nothing whereas “Contraband” works in some horns as well as kicks & snares talking about how you don’t known the half of his crew. “4 tha Love” ruggedly discusses being driven by the fortune until “It Is What It Is” going into the piano boom bap direction thanks to Jazimoto advising not to say any more being all about the business.

“Life in the Feds” has a funkier groove to it detailing what it was like to be behind bars & after the “Some of the Fellas on the Block” interlude, “Know Our Way Around” featuring the Mash Out Posse pairs up Tef with Billy Danze & Lil’ Fame over a more horn-heavy beat talking about how this is exactly it’s going down. “No Fake Love” is a brass/boom bap crossover taking a shot at those fakin’ the funk, but then “Baby” brings these piano chords into the fold to spaz out.

Benny the Butcher’s verse on the track “Hostile Takeover” has to be my favorite feature on the album as he & Teflon returns to a dustier sound so both of them can get in their battle rap bag while the final song “The Thoro Side” after the “How It Was” skit features M.O.P. again 1 last time except the Preemo instrumental is so much dirtier than “Know Our Way Around”. On top of that, the concept of them flexing their lyrical prowesses is such an exciting combination. The remix to “Life in the Feds” is more horn-centered compared to the original, but it’s no better or worse by any means.

I‘ve always heard about this guy through his longtime relationship with the marxman, but was a little hesitant going into 2 Sides of Every Story considering that I’m not the biggest My Will fan myself, but I must admit that his comeback effort here surpassed my expectations a bit & that I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. His performances here sound a lot better than they did the last time we heard him by himself 26 years ago in the midst of Premier & Jazimoto playing Ying & Yang on the production side of things although Preem’s sticks out more to me personally.

Score: 7/10

Teflon Drops Visuals For DJ Premier Produced Banger “Contraband”

With his much-anticipated new album out soon, Teflon delivers the stylish video for his hard-hitting single, “Contraband,” produced by DJ Premier. With Preemo on the beat and the cuts, the track exemplifies that raw NYC hip-hop sound, enhanced only further with Tef’s signature gruff vocals and free-flowing rhymes. The video’s set in an abandoned building where Tef connects with his crew that includes his M.O.P. brethren, Billy Danze and Lil Fame. It all feels like a homecoming for the Brownsville native whose new album, 2 Sides To Every Story, is finally arriving at the end of the month.

2STES is a celebratory moment for the Brooklyn native, who burst onto the scene as part of M.O.P.’s First Family during the late ‘90s New York rap scene. Produced by both Preemo (who produced five tracks), along with the incredibly talented producer/musician Jazimoto (who produced seven tracks), the three have collectively crafted a raw, mature album that showcases Teflon at the top of his lyrical game. In addition to guest appearances by M.O.P., the album features Benny the Butcher and DJ Eclipse among others, with artwork designed by Dom Dirtee.

Check out the visuals and mark your calendars for the digital release of 2 Sides To Every Story, which drops digitally June 30 via 420 Music in partnership with Coalmine Records. You can also visit Coalmine’s online store to pre-order 2STES on vinyl and CD. A blue and purple whirlpool edition is available now for pre-order exclusively through Get On Down, along with a silver edition via RRC Music. Both are limited to just 150 units each. A double-sided slipmat bundle is also available in both the classic black and Get On Down edition, which features Teflon’s 420 Music logo emblazoned on one side, with an image of a “non-stick” teflon pan branded with Coalmine’s logo on the other. *CD orders are set to ship by late July, with all vinyl orders set to ship by late August/early Sept.

Teflon Teams Up With M.O.P. In “The Thoro Side” With DJ Premier On The Cuts

Teflon teams up with longtime collaborators M.O.P. for an absolute banger, “The Thoro Side,” that also features production and cuts from none other than DJ Premier.

Straight out of the gate, the track hits like a ton of bricks. Premo’s instrumental, which blends snarling strings and hard-hitting production, sets the tone before Billy Danze commands the mic. He talks his sh*t before passing the mic to his brethren, Lil Fame, who assaults the production like only he can.

Teflon bats cleanup and continues to bring the same energy as his collaborators, spitting with an exceptional punchiness as he delivers bars like: “M.O.P. ain’t just any team, we a movement/ So introducing the new sh*t from the cats that gave a lot of dudes they influence.”

“The Thoro Side” is available today (4/20), to spotlight Teflon’s own 420 Music company. His new album, Two Sides to Every Story, is due out this summer in partnership with Coalmine Records, which is produced by both DJ Premier and Jazimoto.

Teflon – “Somethin’ Ain’t Right” (Prod. By Jazimoto)

“Somethin’ Ain’t Right” is a powerful, politically charged new single from Brooklyn emcee Teflon and his go-to producer, Jazimoto. It perfectly captures the state of our country as a whole, particularly how systemic racism is being unveiled for the entire world to see. The track highlights the widespread division in the U.S. and how racism has been at the root of it all. You can see it clearly in numerous current events including the murders of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement, and most recently the storming of the U.S. Capitol that was egged on by President Trump. “Somethin’ Ain’t Right” is available now through all digital retailers and streaming platforms. And be sure to check for Tef’s previous comeback single, “No Fake Love” which is also produced by Jazimoto.

Teflon – “No Fake Love” (Video)

Brooklyn rap stalwart and M.O.P. affiliate Teflon shares the new video for his neck-snapping banger, “No Fake Love,” featuring DJ Eclipse on the cuts and Jazimoto on production. Right out of the gate, the video hits just as hard as the track itself thanks to that driving, drums-heavy instrumental from Jazimoto along with the mix courtesy of the legendary DJ Premier. And it sets the stage perfectly for Teflon’s attention-commanding voice, which he uses to proudly proclaim his success and shoot down any and all naysayers. Director Watsyn Filmz captures it all with high-energy visuals that center on the veteran emcee in his element with his Firing Squad crew—LIl Fame and Preemo—with his trusted canine right by his side. Check out the visuals and head over to your preferred digital retailer or streaming platform to support.

Every since Lifetime aired the life-altering docu-series, Surviving R. Kelly in January, it seems that the public has had the Pied Piper on its radar. But not only the public… so has law enforcement.

For a variety of reasons, Cook County has been issuing arrest warrants and polishing up the handcuffs for Kelly. But even when they seem like they got him, it has been a revolving door- with him being in and out of court or an escalator- with his luck going up and down.

The new thing according to Fox News, is that the US Attorney’s Office of the Northern District of Illinois has been interviewing “parties closely associated with Kelly” and looking for more sex tapes linking the embattled r&b star to sexual relations with underaged girls.

According to many who were interviewed in the Lifetime series, there are tons of tapes out there. Attorney Michael Avenatti has said that he has seen at least three of these new tapes.

Many will remember that in 2008 there was a tape where the “I Believe I Can Fly” songwriter was alleged to have been having sex with an underaged girl. He was cleared in that case, even though many that have seen the tape – which is consider child pornography- swear up and down that it is Kellz. Because of that for over 10 years, folk have decided to #MuteRKelly, despite how much Big Mama loves seeing the family stepping in the name of love at the barbecue.

M.O.P.’s Ante Up Remix Was Supposed To Feature JAY-Z & Prodigy While They Were Beefing

Although “Ante Up,” may not M.O.P.’s highest-charting single, the street anthem is a cornerstone of Billy Danze and Lil Fame’s catalog. Released in late 2000, the Loud Records single produced by D/R Period was emblematic of the menacing music that the Brownsville, Brooklyn Rap duo had been making since 1994’s To The Death. At a time when so many artists were bragging about jewels, medallions, and flossing the “iced out” lifestyle, the Mash Out Posse reminded the high-posters that stick-up kids are forever out to tax. As the Warriorz single delivered M.O.P. to radio, music videos, and crossover markets, a remix enhanced the song. Busta Rhymes, Remy Ma, and longtime group affiliate Teflon appeared on the second offering, complete with a video (embedded below). However, in a new conversation with Doggie Diamonds’ The No Filter Podcast, Bill Danze reveals that another legendary lineup was originally intended. Billy Danze Takes A Classic Rick James Sample & Hammers It At 2:00, the show host asks Billy Danze how a young Remy Ma landed on the remix. “Remy forced her way on the record,” says the veteran who just released his solo project, 6 Pack. “What I mean by that is, she just did such a good verse. We didn’t have her in mind.” In the next few years after the breakthrough appearance, Remy Ma (who was still known as “Remy Martin”) would officially sign with SRC Records, Steve Rifkind’s imprint after Loud. Bill continues, “Really, [JAY-Z] was supposed to get on the song. Prodigy had did a [verse] for the song. I didn’t want to use Prodigy’s verse because he was actually talking about Jay. Remember, they had a lil’ beef then. So I hit Jay and was like, ‘Yo, nevermind. Don’t worry about the verse; we’re closing the song now.'” Bill continues that Jay likely knew that the Mobb Deep MC was going to be on the record. “He knew that was gonna happen. But I couldn’t allow that—even if it was the other way around. If Jay was on the record dissing Prodigy, I would’ve took Jay off the record. Nahmean? You don’t bring your beefs or lil’ war into my house; I don’t do that.” Just Blaze Says He’s Given M.O.P. All The Beats Intended For Their Roc-A-Fella Album At the time, Prodigy’s beef with Jay was just bubbling to the surface. According to a 2017 Complex feature, tensions started in 1998 when JAY-Z rapped, “It’s like New York’s been soft ever since Snoop came through and crushed the building,” on “Money, Cash, H*es.” In 1995, Capone-N-Noreaga, Tragedy Khadafi, and Mobb Deep has responded to Tha Dogg Pound and Snoop Dogg’s “New York, New York” with “L.A., L.A.” “Jay was nowhere to be found when that drama popped off between Mobb Deep, Dogg Pound, [Tupac], and Biggie,” Prodigy would later tell The Source, as quoted in his My Infamous Life memoir. “That was our little personal beef, not a coastal war… so JAY-Z is a b*tch-ass ni**a for making that quote in his lyrics.” Jay eventually landed in Tupac’s scope of enemies, although he has worked with Snoop and Tha Dogg Pound. Smif-N-Wessun Detail The Making Of The Album Where They Truly Gave Their All (Video) Less than a year after “Ante Up,” those tensions and alleged subliminal disses came to the surface on Jay’s “The Takeover” and Mobb’s “Crawlin’.” In a 2017 interview with Rap Radar Podcast, JAY-Z revealed that he and Prodigy made peace before his former counterpart’s passing. In 2000, Prodigy and M.O.P. were Loud label-mates. After Warriorz, Billy and Fame signed with JAY-Z’s Roc-A-Fella Records. Although the pair appeared on Jay’s “U Don’t Know (Remix),” they did not complete an album. Just Blaze recently revealed that he gave Lil Fame a drive of the beats set aside for that early 2000s project. Just also revealed in 2017 that Prodigy was the first MC to rap on “U Don’t Know.” In 1998, M.O.P., Jay, and Teflon collaborated on First Family 4 Life video single, “4 Alarm Blaze.” In 2014, M.O.P. and Mobb Deep teamed for “Street Certified.” N.O.R.E. & Havoc Have An Intense Conversation About The C-N-N/Mobb Deep Beef (Video) New music from Billy Danze is currently on Ambrosia For Heads‘ official playlist. 6 Pack features Fame and Teflon. #BonusBeat: M.O.P.’s “Ante Up (Remix)” video, featuring Busta Rhymes, Remy Ma, and Teflon:
