[WATCH] Shyne Details The 1999 Diddy Club Shooting In His New Documentary

Former Bad Boy Records artist JamalShyne” Barrow is set to release a bio-doc and delves into details about the 1999 Club NY shooting, in which Sean “Diddy” Combs was involved, that ultimately sent him to prison for eight years.

In the trailer, which dropped earlier this week, Barrow maintains his innocence and contends that he was just the “fall guy” for Combs and his then-girlfriend Jennifer Lopez.

“I was absolutely set up to be the fall guy. One of the most difficult parts of it was watching everybody succeed. I spent 10 years in prison but I was able to move on,” he says.

The shooting was a result of an altercation between members of Bad Boy and a man named Matthew Allen aka “Scar”. Both Shyne and Diddy were arrested for the shooting, but Diddy was eventually acquitted of all charges while Shyne was charged in the shooting that injured three innocent people.

Shyne was convicted of criminal possession of a weapon, assault and reckless endangerment, but was found not guilty of attempted murder. He was deported to Belize, his birth country, upon his 2009 release from prison.

Last month, Shyne blamed Diddy for ruining his life while weighing in on the news of the federal charges against his former boss.

“When I was an 18-year-old kid just wanting to do nothing other than make my mother proud and make Belize proud and do what all of us want to do — be recognized for our talent and take over the world,” he said. “I was defending him [Diddy] and he turned around and called witnesses to testify against me,” he said during a press conference.

Diddy Accused Of Putting Bounty Out On 1999 NYC Nightclub Shooting Victim

Screenshot 2024 07 08 at 11.49.19 PM

According to a recent interview with Art Of Dialogue podcast, 1999 Club NY shooting victim Natania Reuben says that not only was Diddy the person who pulled the trigger and not Shyne, but Reuben contends that the Bad Boy mogul intended to hire a hitman to kill her.

Reuben suffered a gunshot wound to the face during the Club NY shooting in 1999 and won a $1.8 million settlement in a civil lawsuit against the music, fashion and spirits mogul. Former Bad Boy artist JamalShyne” Barrow served eight years in prison for the shooting, however, Reuben asserts that Diddy was actually the one who pulled the trigger on that fateful night just days before the turn of the millennium.

In the most recent episode of The Art Of Dialogue, the shooting victim says that the troubled living legend put ahit out on her during the trial, which forced her to relocate.

“I was born in Brooklyn [and] I was raised in Brooklyn,” she said. “I had no intentions of leaving, and probably had this [not] happened, I probably would have never left, but when the District Attorney’s office gets information from one of their confidential informant sources saying that there’s a bag on my head, and I’m calling the District Attorney’s office and I’m calling everybody because I look out my window where I was living in Canarsie, Brooklyn and there’s four, stretched, blacked-out SUVs — I lived on the corner — there’s one on that corner, that corner, one in front of my house, one on the next corner.”

“What should I do? Sit there and wait for them to come get me or submit to the will of people who have my best interest and want to move me and my family to preserve my safety? […] I had businesses. Why would I pick up and just leave everything I knew but for the fact that my life depended on it?”

She also is adamant that even with her criticism of Diddy, it by no way is a claim that Shyne is innocent.

“I said on my TikTok, Shyne did not shoot me because he didn’t, but Shyne is a con artist,” Reuben said. “Everybody’s like, ‘Oh, we knew Shyne was innocent.’ No, you don’t know a damn thing because he’s far from innocent.”

Shyne Denounces Association with Diddy: ‘There is No Place for Violence Against Women’

Shyne is distancing himself from Diddy. Hitting Instagram, Shyne denounced any connection to the Bad Boy mogul.

“I vehemently denounce the repugnant behavior of Sean Diddy Combs captured on the video in which he is seen physically assaulting Mrs. Cassie Ventura-Fine,” Shyne wrote.

“There is no place for Violence against Women anywhere on the planet. As a father of a precious daughter, a global citizen and the next Prime Minister of Belize I want absolutely nothing to do with people who engage in this pattern of diabolical behavior.”

Diddy issued an apology on Instagram for his 2016 assault Cassie seen in hotel security camera footage. In response, Cassie’s lawyer released a statement.

“Combs’ most recent statement is more about himself than the many people he has hurt,” said attorney Meredith Firetog. “When Cassie and multiple other women came forward, he denied everything and suggested that his victims were looking for a payday. That he was only compelled to ‘apologize’ once his repeated denials were proven false shows his pathetic desperation, and no one will be swayed by his disingenuous words.”

2016 footage from the Intercontinental Hotel in Los Angeles shows Diddy beating Cassie in the hotel’s hallway.

In the video released by CNN, Diddy is seen running down the hotel hallway in a towel to catch Cassie as she attempts to leave in an elevator. Diddy throws Cassie to the floor by her neck, followed by kicks, stomps and an attempt to drag her down the hall by her hood.

Cassie attempted to use a hotel phone only to be pushed to the ground by Diddy again. Later in the video, he throws a vase at the singer.

Cassie’s attorney, Douglas H. Wigdor, released the following statement: “The gut-wrenching video has only further confirmed the disturbing and predatory behavior of Mr. Combs. Words cannot express the courage and fortitude that Ms. Ventura has shown in coming forward to bring this to light.”

The video is available below. As a warning, the video is graphic and displays physical assault.

This video arrived just days after Diddy posted a new message on Instagram. In the post, captioned “LOVE,” Diddy shared an image that says, “Time tells truth.”

A federal rade on Diddy’s properties in March, led to the seizure of electronic devices in both his Los Angeles and Miami homes.

According to ABC, Homeland Security executed the raid by order of a Manhattan federal court, seizing devices in an investigation of sex trafficking as a result of civil lawsuits against the music mogul from four women.

Diddy and his legal team released a statement following the raids on his Los Angeles and Miami homes. In a statement, attorney Aaron Dyer stated that federal authorities used “military-level force” to execute the raid.

You can read the full statement below:

“Yesterday, there was a gross overuse of military-level force as search warrants were executed at Mr. Combs’ residences. There is no excuse for the excessive show of force and hostility exhibited by authorities or the way his children and employees were treated. Mr. Combs was never detained but spoke to and cooperated with authorities. Despite media speculation, neither Mr. Combs nor any of his family members have been arrested nor has their ability to travel been restricted in any way.

This unprecedented ambush—paired with an advanced, coordinated media presence—leads to a premature rush to judgment of Mr. Combs and is nothing more than a witch hunt based on meritless accusations made in civil lawsuits. There has been no finding of criminal or civil liability with any of these allegations. Mr. Combs is innocent and will continue to fight every single day to clear his name.”

On Nov. 16, 2023, Cassie filed a now-settled lawsuit against Diddy in federal court, accusing the media mogul of rape and abuse that began a decade ago when she was just 19 years old. The “Me and You” singer was previously signed to Diddy’s label Bad Boy Records, meeting him back in 2005. Since then, she alleges he took control of her life and accused him of acts of sex trafficking, human trafficking, sexual battery, sexual assault, and more.

In light of recent events, Cassie is hopeful Diddy will finally get the justice he deserves.

Her attorney issued a statement to Good Morning America following the raids of his home: “We will always support law enforcement when it seeks to prosecute those that have violated the law. Hopefully, this is the beginning of a process that will hold Mr. Combs responsible for his depraved conduct.”

Shyne Believes He Was Fall Guy for 1999 Shooting but Does Not Blame Diddy While Victim Opens Old Wounds With Social Media Posts

Former Rapper Shyne Wins Mesopotamia Seat in Belize City for the House of Representatives

Former Brooklyn rapper turned Belize politician Shyne Barrow says he was the fall guy in the notorious 1999 club shooting in New York. For those who forgot, Shyne served about eight years for his conviction in that shooting. The victim who was shot in the face blames Diddy, and even though Shyne isn’t agreeing to her accusation, nearly 25 years later.

Shyne is now an elected member of the House of Representatives. He turned his life around and is a politician in his native Belize. He spoke to the media in his island nation, where he was deported after being released. Shyne says he’s put that part of his life behind him, but there’s been some renewed interest in the story due to all that surrounds Diddy’s legal and civil trouble.

TMZ reported on Shyne’s chat, and the Brooklyn artist maintains his innocence but won’t blame his former boss

But what’s interesting is that he kind urges anyone to watch the videos posted by the victim, Natania Reuben, who was struck in the face with a bullet that fateful night.

It’s wild, but Natania posted several clips where she recounts her experience and thoughts that night. She steadfastly points the finger at Diddy for the shooting, although Diddy was never actually charged for pulling the trigger.

Way back when Diddy was hit with gun possession and bribery charges but was acquitted, while Shyne was found guilty and did time.

Diddy did pay over a million to Reuben so there’s that part.

What’s crazier is this was back when Diddy was dating Jennifer Lopez. She was not charged with anything and rightfully so. Times have changed. Lopez is back married to Ben Affleck and a mogul in her own rite. Shyne is a whole politician and Diddy is well, you know what’s going on there.

Today In Hip Hop History: Shyne Dropped His Eponymous Debut Album 22 Years Ago

Screen Shot 2022 09 26 at 5.35.28 AM

On this date in 2000, Bad Boy Records premiere artist JamalShyne” Barrow released his self-titled debut album on the ever-popular Bad Boy imprint under the leadership of BB honcho, then known as “P. Diddy.”

Shyne’s debut album release was a bittersweet one, with his LP being dropped while the Belize-born rapper was serving 8-10 years in an upstate prison for a shooting in Club New York in Manhattan just a year prior involving his boss and then-girlfriend Jennifer Lopez. Despite Barrow having to do time behind bars, his album was an undisputed success, selling over a million copies in less than a year. It also was a tremendous help that Shyne’s voice was eerily identical to slain Bad Boy artist Notorious B.I.G.

With the album content surrounding Shyne’s real-life gangster image, the project’s leading singles, “Bad Boyz”, which features reggae legend Barrington Levy and the thug love story “Bonnie And Shyne”, were not only popular in the streets, but also did their numbers on-air, with the singles in constant rotation on the radio around the country.

Salute to Diddy, Shyne and the rest of the Bad Boy staff for bringing the people such a timeless Hip Hop classic!

[WATCH] Diddy’s Former Bodyguard Accuses Him Of Snitching In Shyne’s Case In 1999 Club NY Shooting

Screen Shot 2022 03 21 at 5.25.49 PM

Former Bad Boy bodyguard Gene Deal spoke to The Art Of Dialogue about the shooting in Club NY in 1999 which landed Bay Boy Records signee in prison for a decade and did not pull any punches when saying Diddy snitched on Shyne to save himself.

Deal insinuated that Diddy separated himself from Shyne, whose name is Jamal Barrow, while others made statements against the Biggie soundalike, forcing Shyne into a solitary corner. “They came to Shyne, and they asked Shyne for 20 racks ’cause they had somebody that was gonna make sure all of them got off ’cause they was not going to agree to none of them charges, and they was on the jury stand,” Deal says. Shyne may not admit to it, but he knows that to be true. So now, the reason they got off was people was coming to Bad Boy security and said that they were there.”

Deal spoke about the never-before-mentioned snitches on Diddy’s side who were going to assist in throwing Shyne under the bus, saying, “He was like, ‘You supposed to be my brother, and you got people testifying against me?’ Those people were testifying, they were brought to Puff first, saying what they saw against Shyne, what they saw Shyne do. The D.A. didn’t even know those people existed,” said Deal.

Former Bad Boy Rapper Shyne To Jump In The Booth Again For Upcoming Biopic Soundtrack

Screen Shot 2021 09 02 at 9.54.00 AM

According to an exclusive report from HipHopDX, Shyne will be spitting his “Bad Boy” bars again after two decades as the former Bad Boy signee and current Belizean politician says he will be filming a biopic film, TV series, and documentary.

In his exclusive interview with DX, Mr. Barrow said, “I will be doing a bio movie and bio documentary as well as a bio TV series, which will all have corresponding soundtracks. I will be making music for those. But for those projects, not for a career, just as an attachment to those projects. You can’t have a movie without a soundtrack. And so I would have to create music for the movie and for the documentary.”

He also contends that he will be bridging the Belizean music community with American entertainers. “I would have to create music for the TV series. But again, you’ll hear a lot of Belizean artists with my American artist friends. So it would be a great opportunity to give the Belizean musicians a platform.”

Shyne continued, “I never give up on that passion and so I still try to help them, still try to make connections between my American music friends and the Belizean young talent that’s there. I discovered so many young great talent. Now that I have that platform, I’ll be doing all I can to bridge the gap and allow them to walk over that bridge to success. We have great artists like Supa G, Stig Da Artist, T.Y., Tanya Carter, C-Wills and so many great artists that you guys should all check out.”

Shyne is currently serving as a member of the Belize House of Representatives in the Belize City-based Mesopotamia constituency, which is, of course, his priority as a politician.

“Please keep me in prayer, as I plan to work with both my UDP Opposition & the PUP Administration to follow through on all my official engagements to bring about meaningful results for the benefit of the Belizean People.”
