24 geto boys we cant be stopped 1991 controversial rap album covers

On this date in Hip-Hop history, Houston legends the Geto Boys released their most famous album, We Can’t Be Stopped, on J. Prince’s Rap A Lot Records.

With Bushwick Bill’s self-inflicted gunshot wound to the eye on the album cover and their uber-popular “Mind Playin’ Tricks On Me” dominating airwaves, Bill, Willie D, and Face’s most revered album helped re-define the term “hotter than July.”

The 14-track classic was certified platinum less than a year after its release, making Geto Boys a household name and allowing Brad Jordan to drop his debut album, Mr. Scarface Is Back.

Rest In Peace to Bushwick Bill and NJ-born DJ Ready Red, an original member of the Geto Boys who left the group during the recording of this album. Salute to Uncle Face and Willie D for giving us such a timeless piece of Hip-Hop history!

Fred The Godson Hospitalized with Coronavirus

Fred the Godson took to Instagram on Monday to reveal that he has been battling the viral COVID-19 strain of coronavirus.

“I’m here wit this Corvus (sic) 19 shit! Please keep me in y’all prayers,” Fred wrote on IG with the hashtag God is Great. The “God Level” rapper also has asthma which made him more susceptible to the virus.

The Bronx native currently resides in a hotbed for coronavirus with New York City being considered the epicenter of the disease. According to the New York Times, The Big Apple has had more than 130,000 cases of coronavirus with more than 4,000 deaths.

Fred the Godson is not the first rapper to be diagnosed with the potentially fatal disease. Houston rapper Scarface reportedly tested positive in late March after being sick for weeks. Scarface was temporarily hospitalized but recovered enough in recent days to continue treatment from home.

The currently incarcerated YNW Melly also tested positive and has requested a release from jail to receive proper medical treatment. Melly is fighting a double murder charge in Broward County Florida.
