The Game Salty About ‘The Documentary Not Being Named In Rolling Stone’s Greatest Rap Albums List

The Game to young rappers advice

Rolling Stone’s magazine dropped their list of the 200 greatest hip-hop albums of all time list this past week and was scolded for their egregious takes on hip-hop music. Some people even took to social media to say how bad the list was, noting that some classic albums had been left off the list in favor of more recent albums that have not nearly had the same impact or acclaim.

One surprising omission was of The Game’s debut album, The Documentary. The Game responded to being left out of the list on Twitter, citing that he carried the West Coast for 20 years with his debut album.

@RollingStone how is “The Documentary” not on the list for 200 Greatest Rap Albums Of All Time ?” The Game tweeted. “I carried an entire coast for 20 years on the back of my 1st album. Cause I don’t walk red carpets, play dress up, smile or fake laugh at brunches I don’t count ? #Drillmatic July 1st.”

This is not the first time however that The Game has felt like he has been disrespected. He aired out his grievances to Ebro, T.I., and Funk Flex for leaving him out of their 50 greatest rappers of all-time list.

“@oldmanebro @funkflex & @troubleman31…… I ain’t forgot about these lists… #DRILLMATIC coming soon…. HURRICANE GAME LIVES y’all shoulda just threw my baby mamas in there too !!!!”

Rolling Stone’s Top 200 List Of Greatest Hip-Hop Albums Cause Confusion

Classic Albums in Australia Still Selling

On June 7, Rolling Stone released its ranking of the 200 Greatest Hip Hop Albums of All Time and many fans oppose the list.

Since Hip-Hop is such a broad genre, the popular entertainment news publication limited the list to English language hip-hop only. They also said in cases of repeated albums from legendary catalogs such as OutKast or A Tribe Called Quest, we tended to go with the latter option.

Although many fans disagree with the order and the selections of the albums, Rolling Stone did attempt to cover the entire evolution of the hip-hop genre. The committee selected projects from the early stages of rap such as albums from Public Enemy, De La Soul, Eric B. and Rakim. It also captures records from the ’90s and ‘2000s with acts like Tupac, Biggie, Jay-Z, Nas, Lil Wayne, and Kanye West. The list also mentions tons of new era acts Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Polo G, Travis Scott, Mac Miller, and more.

Here is how Rolling Stone ranked the top 50.

50. EPMD – ‘Strictly Business’ (1988)
49. N.W.A – ‘Straight Outta Compton’ (1988)
48. J Dilla – ‘Donuts’ (2006)

44. Genius/GZA – ‘Liquid Swords’ (1995)
43. Run-D.M.C. – ‘Run-D.M.C.’ (1984)
42. Big Daddy Kane – ‘Long Live the Kane’ (1988)
41. Kanye West – ‘Late Registration’ (2005)
40. Dr. Dre – ‘The Chronic’ (1992)
39. Lil Wayne – ‘The Carter III’ (2008)

17. Kanye West – ‘Yeezus’ (2013)
16. Cardi B – ‘Invasion of Privacy’ (2018)
15. Eric B. and Rakim – ‘Paid in Full’ (1987)
14. Ghostface Killah – ‘Supreme Clientele’ (2000)
13. Dr. Dre – ‘2001’ (1999)

3. Jay-Z – ‘The Blueprint’ (2001)
2. Outkast – ‘Stankonia’ (2000)
1. The Notorious B.I.G. – ‘Ready to Die’ (1994)

Entries that sparked debate is Travis Scott’s Astroworld coming at No.200.

Fans were happy with the Mac Miller selection they picked.

And as great as Cardi B is fans do not think Invasion of Privacy is better than NasIllmatic or Jay-Z’s Reasonable Doubt or Tupac’s All Eyez On Me.

Another fan expressed frustration about the order of Chance The Rapper’s Acid Rap, ranked No. 36. Seeing that it’s above Dr. Dre’s The Chronic. They even begged Rolling Stone to leave the genre alone.

Lauryn Hill Says Her Label Never Asked Her How to Help in Creating Another Album

Lauryn Hill Performs Virtually for Louis Vuitton Menswear Ad

Lauryn Hill has made a rare set of statements, popping up on the latest episode of Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums podcast on Amazon Music. During her e-mail interview, Hill spoke on her classic, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.

During the interview, Hill reflected on the legacy of the Miseducation album, citing how critical she is of her own work.

“I’ve always been pretty critical of myself artistically, so of course there are things I hear that could have been done differently but the LOVE in the album, the passion, it’s intention is to me, undeniable,” Hill said. “I think my intention was simply to make something that made my foremothers and forefathers in music and social and political struggle know that someone received what they’d sacrificed to give us, and to let my peers know that we could walk in that truth, proudly and confidently.

“At that time, I felt like it was a duty or responsibility to do so. … I challenged the norm and introduced a new standard. I believe the Miseducation did that and I believe I still do this—defy convention when the convention is questionable.”

Over the years people would want another album from Hill and she revealed why she never recorded another album.

“The wild thing is no one from my label has ever called me and asked how can we help you make another album, EVER…EVER. Did I say ever? Ever! … With the Miseducation, there was no precedent. I was, for the most part, free to explore, experiment and express,” Hill shared.”After the Miseducation, there were scores of tentacled obstructionists, politics, repressing agendas, unrealistic expectations, and saboteurs EVERYWHERE. People had included me in their own narratives of THEIR successes as it pertained to my album, and if this contradicted my experience, I was considered an enemy.”

@rollingstone 😛🍫 #womenshapingthefuture

A post shared by Hot Girl Meg (@theestallion) on

With her latest single “B.I.T.C.H.” still buzzing, we already knew that Meg’s highly-anticipated project will feature big names like SZA, Pharrell, and Juicy J will be a part of the project, but now we have even more details. Last week Rolling Stone revealed the Houston rapper was on the cover of the publications second annual “Women Shaping the Future” alongside Normani and SZA, who disclosed to fans would be her last cover/photoshoot.

Speaking with the famed publication, Megan spilled the beans on when the Hotties can expect the album revealing it will be dropping on May 2, her late mother’s birthday. Being that day is a Saturday, we won’t be surprised if it comes the day before on May 1.  The “Big Ole Freak” crafter also touched on a bevy of topics including finishing college, her mother passing away, crazy rumors, her private life, and more.

When asked about G-Eazy and other rumors involving her:

“These are my immediate girlfriends, and we all have a lot of guy friends. But now, it’s just a public thing. People think that if I’m hanging out with anybody, it got to be, ‘Oh, they’re having sex.’ Why can’t I just be turnt up with my friend tonight?” she asks. “They’re just doing this shit because they want some attention, and I cannot feed into it. I have a little anxiety because I’m still going through the grief from losing my mother and my grandmother. Then I have to get on the internet and see these motherfuckers talking about me? That shit really be pissing me off sometimes.”

About working with Pharrell:

“I would go in and write a song, and the beat would sound one way, but by the time he gets done to it, it’s a whole new song. I had never worked with a producer before that goes back in on his own beats and changes a bunch of stuff, like post-production. ‘Wow, these beats don’t even be done? That’s crazy.’ ”

On trying to broaden her sound:

“When I started making music, I was making music that I liked. I’m making ratchet shit, turn up shit. I’m doing me. I wasn’t thinking about anybody else in my music. I wasn’t thinking about kids, and I’m not thinking about other races. I wasn’t thinking about anybody but me and my brand, but when I go, and I see these other artists, and when I go to some of my friend’s shows, and I’m looking at who’s in the crowd, and I’m looking at even my god-sister, they’re six, seven, eight, and they’re singing my songs. I’m like, ‘Okay. Let me give y’all something a little deeper because I definitely want to grow with my music. I want to grow up with my music. That was me making music as a freshman in college.”

We ready for that album. You can read the full cover story here.

“He is So Two-Faced”: Taylor Swift Breaks Down Her Kanye West Feud & Compares It to Drake/Pusha-T Beef

It’s been a full decade since “that incident” involving Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Kanye West, a “Best Female Video” trophy and most notably a bottle of Hennessy. However, even with 10 years and a series of other dramatic events in the interim, that moment at the 2009 MTV VMA Awards is still a topic of discussion in 2019. This time however, it’s Tay-Tay who’s bringing up the past in order to tell her side of it all for the latest cover story of Rolling Stone.

While the interview is full of other interesting focal points, including details around the making of her aforementioned chart-topping LP, the Game of Thrones finale and her highly-publicized fallout with Scooter Braun and Scott Borchetta, the meat of this interview is without a doubt her recollection of the whole Kanye ordeal. From the ’09 VMAs to that phone call heard around the world a few years ago, Taylor tells all and reveals a few details that some people may have never heard before.

Read the paraphrased version below of her Rolling Stone quote that details the beef with ‘Ye and his “two-faced” ways:

“Basically, I got really sick of the dynamic between he and I…all I ever wanted my whole career after that thing happened in 2009 was for him to respect me… we’d go to dinner and stuff…It just felt like I was healing some childhood rejection or something from when I was 19. But the 2015 VMAs come around. He’s getting the Vanguard Award. He called me up beforehand — I didn’t illegally record it, so I can’t play it for you…he’s like, “I really, really would like for you to present this Vanguard Award to me, this would mean so much to me,” and went into all the reasons why it means so much, because he can be so sweet. He can be the sweetest. And I was so stoked that he asked me that. And so I wrote this speech up, and then we get to the VMAs and I make this speech and he screams, “MTV got Taylor Swift up here to present me this award for ratings!” [His exact words: “You know how many times they announced Taylor was going to give me the award ’cause it got them more ratings?”] And I’m standing in the audience with my arm around his wife, and this chill ran through my body. I realized he is so two-faced. That he wants to be nice to me behind the scenes, but then he wants to look cool, get up in front of everyone and talk shit.”

— Taylor Swift, Rolling Stone Magazine (Issue #1332)

This part of the interview goes on to explain how the infamous line from Kanye’s hit song “Famous” (“I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex / Why? I made that bitch famous”) officially put them on “bad terms” following the situation described above. She even brought The 6 God into it, explaining how Kanye, in her words, “gravely affected the trajectory of Drake’s family and their lives” by allegedly telling Pusha-T about the news of Drake’s son and thus “The Story of Adidon” was born. Man, this one may go down as the longest-running pop beef ever!

Lil Nas X’s Song ‘Old Town Road’ Removed From Billboard’s Country Charts

Billboard is now the target of intense criticism for removing Lil Nas X’s song “Old Town Road” from the Hot Country Songs Chart. The track “Old Town Road,” was released in December 2018 and grew in popularity because of social media memes and the music app TikTok. Since the songs official release, it also charted on the Hot 100 and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts. As the song grew in popularity, it debuted on the Hot Country Songs chart at no. 19

According to Rolling Stone, Billboard told Lil Nas’s label Columbia Records, “his inclusion on the ranking was a mistake.” Because of Billboard’s stance, social media has been in an uproar. Many are calling the removal of “Old Town Road,” an obvious case of racial discrimination.

Addressing the situation, Billboard replied in a statement to Rolling Stone:

“Upon further review, it was determined that ‘Old Town Road’ by Lil Nas X does not currently merit inclusion on Billboard‘s country charts. When determining genres, a few factors are examined, but first and foremost is a musical composition. While ‘Old Town Road’ incorporates references to country and cowboy imagery, it does not embrace enough elements of today’s country music to chart in its current version.”
