Smoke Bulga Calls Joining MMG a “Blessing” and a Result of His Hustle

Smoke Bulga Calls Joining MMG a "Blessing" and a Result of His Hustle

Last week, Smoke Bulga was announced as the latest addition to the Maybach Music Group Empire. Smoke’s induction to the MMG roster came with the new single “Water Whip’N.”

“I’m honored to join the MMG family,” Bulga said of the announcement. “It really feels like Draft Day because I’m teaming up with one of the best to ever do it in Rozay with one of the premier labels in hip-hop history. MMG has long represented excellence and I look forward to representing the new generation of MMG starting with this new ‘Water Whip’N’ release.”

Speaking with The Source, Smoke Bulga dived into what it means to join the MMG roster, what’s coming up next, and more.

What let you know “Water Whip’N” was the first single to lead with after your MMG signing?

Smoke Bulga: It was only right to announce my signing to MMG with a song featuring the MMG CEO and one of the GOATS in Rick Ross. It was really a no-brainer, especially with how we both flowed on that Black Rob sample. I’m just glad that Ross really rocked with the song, put his stamp on it, and believed in me enough to push it to the masses.

What let you know that MMG was the home for you?

MMG has a great reputation with East Coast artists who bridge the gap between the East Coast sound and the Southern sound, so I trusted their track record and professionalism. I look at the artists that came before me – like Meek Mill and Wale – and I’m aiming for similar success that they’ve achieved. Ross has the best ear in the game, so teaming up with him will only make me a better and more versatile artist.

Thinking back to 2010 and being on a song with Ross, how does it feel to have that full-circle moment?

To be able to record with Ross in 2010 and then ultimately sign to him, it’s a blessing. So much has happened between that time, but it feels like I’m finally accomplishing the goals that I set out for myself back in 2010. The patience and hustle is paying off. I always wanted Ross to hop on my record, so it’s really a full-circle feeling for that moment to have finally happened.

Do you have any communication with other members of the MMG roster? If so, what has it been like?

Not yet. Between the pandemic and just focusing on this new chapter in my career, I’ve really been locked in the studio. But I look forward to chopping it up with them at some point and I have a tremendous amount of respect for what everyone on the MMG team has accomplished, so I want to contribute to that success.

What can we expect from you for the rest of the year?

Later this year, I’m planning to release my project – 100 Million Ain’t Enough – so it’s definitely gonna be a major moment for me. Stay tuned, but it’s important for me to leave a mark on this hip-hop game and represent Boston to the fullest.

You have collaborations with Jim Jones, Conway the Machine, and more. Who would you choose to be next?

I definitely want to collaborate with the other artists on MMG team, but it would be great to connect with Drake and Lil Baby at some point too. I’m also a big fan of EST Gee and 42 Dugg and the energy they bring in their music, so hopefully, we can all build together.

Rick Ross Reveals Truth About Delayed ‘YOLO’ Collab with Drake

In 2011, Rick Ross and Drake teased fans with the ultimate collaboration, that had yet yo manifest. But after eight years and several Grammy nominations between the two, Rick Ross reveals why the project was stagnated.

During an interview with Complex, Rick Ross touched on his long-awaited collaboration with Drake, revealing that although the two recorded enough material to release the project, the timing was never right—although he’s not ruling out a possible release in the future.

”That was just a vibe,” Ross said. “You never know what could happen in the future, but me and Drake, him being in Miami at that time [in 2011-2012], and him coming by the crib every day, we was spending a lot of time together. And it was a serious possibility. We wasn’t just talking sh*t. We really was in the studio a lot. It’s just not the same no more. Meaning, the way he travel and the way I move. But is it a possibility? There’s always a possibility for that, because it would be simple for us.”

Ross also revealed that Drake isn’t the only artist he has songs in the vault with. While discussing the YOLO project, Ross also noted that he has songs with Nas that may be appearing on Self Made 4.

”I’ve got enough production to do a me and Drake project and a Nas project. The next Maybach Music Self Made 4,” Rick Ross continued. “Me and Nas had that conversation several times. And not several times as we bulsh*tting. But just because a project like that, with me, would be all about the details. The details down to the f*cking smallest, most minuscule detail when it came to production and getting mixed and all of that. So, it’s not nothing that we could just sit and agree on and really dedicate ourselves to it.“

In regards to his plans for an MMG takeover for the new decade, Ross explains that he already has his sights set on 2021.

”Well, to me, Maybach Music is going to an even more exclusive place, because it’s no longer about Rick Ross having to prove himself as being a successful CEO,” Ross said. “It’s not about getting a certain amount of notoriety. We’ve done that. We’ve established ourselves to be one of the greatest units in the game. I just wanted to make it more exclusive over the last few years. I wanted to cut ties with some motherf*ckers that I felt wasn’t really going to take it to that greater place. And doing that, you clear the stage and make space for the ones that’s going to shine bright enough for them all. So everybody that’s still a part of the team, I’m genuinely fans of. And that’s what it’s going to be. The next plays that I make, 2020 and 2021, once again, I believe everybody’s just going to say, “Rozay, that n*gga, he always wins.”

Rick Ross Brings The Opulence Once More With 10th LP ‘Port Of Miami 2’ #PortOfMiami2

2019 Beauty Con

Source: Patricia Schlein/WENN.com / WENN

Rick Ross enjoys one of the strongest discographies in the Hip-Hop game, and since his 2006 debut album Port Of Miami, he has become something of a legend. Now a seasoned veteran, Ricky Rozay unleashed the sequel to his first album and 10th studio release, Port Of Miami 2, to much fanfare.

Across 15 tracks, Ross brings the opulence and big boss talk he’s become known for while also showcasing the strength of his pen with a few introspective verses for the people. The feature-heavy project on paper would seem like to some that the Maybach Music Group boss is running out of steam but it’s far from the truth. In fact, Ross sounds as confident as ever considering his mileage and requisite successes.

The guest lineup includes Wale, Meek Mill, Teyana Taylor, Gunplay, Drake, and a moving posthumous verse from the late Nipsey Hussle. The album is currently three singles deep with “Act A Fool,” “BIG TYME,” and “Gold Roses” wetting the palette of fans who now no longer have to wait to hear the rest of Ross’ latest opus.

Reaction across Twitter has been largely positive, although a few critics have chimed in with their thoughts. In particular, the omission of Pusha-T on “Maybach Music VI” which features Lil Wayne and John Legend. The verse has surfaced online and fans are speculating the bars are in reference to Pusha’s rivals, Weezy and Drake, which revealed to some the possibility of its removal.

Still, this album appears to be a win for Rick Ross as he continues to find new ways to let the rest of us know how much money we don’t have in comparison. All jokes aside, this sounds like an album from an artist who wants to remain atop the heap.

Check out the streams of Rick RossPort Of Miami 2 below.
