Yo Gotti Announces New CMG Project 'Gangsta Art 2'

Yo Gotti and his CMG team are ready to deliver another set of bangers. Hitting Instagram, Gotti announced Gangsta Art 2. This is the second collaboration project from the full label.

On Instagram, Gotti revealed the project will drop this Friday. The first single on the project is “Big Dawg,” pairing Moneybagg Yo with Sexyy Red. Additional singles will feature GloRilla, EST Gee, Big Boogie, Lil Poppa, Blac Youngsta, and more. You can see the announcement below.

Most recently, Yo Gotti, the Memphis native and CEO of CMG, dropped his latest Gangsta Grillz mixtape, I Showed U So, featuring collaborations with Moneybagg Yo and Rich Homie Quan. The 10-song mixtape with DJ Drama displays Gotti’s versatility, transitioning from gritty tracks like “Pop My Shit” to more romantic rhymes in “The One,” where he vulnerably raps about love and butterflies in his stomach.

The mixtape also reunites Gotti with Rich Homie Quan on their new collab, “Mandarin,” after their hit single “I Know” from Gotti’s acclaimed album “I Am” ten years ago.

I Showed U So is a long-awaited follow-up to Gotti’s breakthrough Gangsta Grillz project, I Told U So, released in 2006, which marked a turning point in his career. Now, 17 years later, Gotti celebrates the manifestation of his dreams and accomplishments.

The mixtape’s release follows Gotti’s “No Fake Love” single and video drop featuring Angela Simmons.

Additionally, I Showed U So marks Gotti‘s first solo release since his 11th studio album CM10: Free Game in February 2022, which achieved the highest-charting album of his career, debuting at No. 3 on the Billboard 200.

Notably, Gotti recently joined First Lady Dr. Jill Biden at The White House to host a Major League Soccer Youth Clinic, showcasing his involvement as co-owner of DC United, a prestigious franchise in the MLS. He also participated in various festivities around the MLS All-Star Game in Washington D.C.

With a string of successful albums and an ever-growing fan base, Yo Gotti continues to make waves in the music industry and beyond.

DJ Drama Says a Failed Attempt at an Outkast Gangsta Grillz Led to “The Art of Storytelling, Pt. 4”

DJ Drama Says a Failed Attempt at an Outkast Gangsta Grillz Led to "The Art of Storytelling, Pt. 4"

DJ Drama‘s appearance on the New Rory & Mal podcast uncovered a lot. In addition to reflecting on the Meek Mill and Drake beef, DJ Drama thought about a Gangsta Grillz mixtape that never came about.

Outkast was supposed to do a Gangsta Grillz,” Drama explained. “Me, their manager at the time, Blue Williams, Dre and Big Boi all got on the phone, we were gonna do a Gangsta Grillz … It was supposed to come out before ‘Idlewild.’”

The tape didn’t come about because of time constraints within the film and the soundtrack. Instead, they offered an Outkast single. “I was like, ‘What? Hell yeah! Okay,’” Drama added.

The song is “The Art of Storytelling, Pt. 4,” where Big Boi and Andre 300 floated across a Don Cannon beat and brought Marsha Amborious for a feature. You can hear the whole story from DJ Drama below.

Pharrell Explains Why he Can’t Stand Some of his Old Music: ‘I Was Bragging Too Much’

Pharrell graced the cover of GQ’s “New Masculinity” issue and revealed that he’s embarrassed about the lyrical content in his 2006 mixtape, Gangsta Grillz.

In the mixtape, Skateboard P flexed about his cars, clothes, and bling bling in great detail. “Blow a hundred grand on L.V. leather goods / Lift up the doors, open trunk, open hood / Enzo horse power, crank it up and hear the hooves,” he rapped on the Gangsta Grillz cut, “Liquid Swords.”

But he’s a lot more humble these days, and bows to everyone and explained what inspired him to do this in the cover interview.

“And then I met Nigo, and he didn’t say anything. His cars, his houses, his apartments—he was such an incredible collector. His points of view. But this guy would not say one word. He just bowed all the time. When I went to Japan, I had never met a more humble culture. I was like, These people are so kind, and they have the best taste. Now, at the time [2006], I was still doing, like, my Gangsta Grillz mixtape. I could never listen to it now, because I was bragging so much. I’m so embarrassed by that. I behaved so obnoxiously. But I didn’t know no better. And Nigo’s way of humility, and Tokyo’s way of humility, was seeping into my soul. And then the more I humbled myself down, the less I bragged. The less that I felt like I needed to flex. Humility is a skill set. It’s an art form. It’s something you work at.”

He also talked about the misogyny  displayed in most songs just like his “Blurred Lines” collaboration with Robin Thicke and T.I.

“And then I realized that there are men who use that same language when taking advantage of a woman, and it doesn’t matter that that’s not my behavior. Or the way I think about things. It just matters how it affects women. And I was like, Got it. I get it. Cool. My mind opened up to what was actually being said in the song and how it could make someone feel. Even though it wasn’t the majority, it didn’t matter. I cared what they were feeling too. I realized that we live in a chauvinist culture in our country. Hadn’t realized that. Didn’t realize that some of my songs catered to that…”
