The coronavirus is getting more serious by the day. New Orleans radio personality and popular deejay Black N Mild has reportedly died after testing positive for COVID-19.

According to reports, the Orleans Parish coroner’s office confirmed Oliver ‘Black N Mild’ Stokes Jr‘s death and revealed he died on Thursday. He was 44 and made a name for himself in the Big Easy.

Popular New Orleans bounce deejay and radio personality Oliver Stokes Jr., better known as Go DJ Black N Mild, was one of two coronavirus-related deaths in Louisiana on Thursday, the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office confirmed. “Our school community is devastated,” said Sabrina Pence, the CEO of FirstLine Schools, the charter organization that operates Arthur Ashe.  Stokes left work on March 9 with a fever, Pence said, and did not return. The rap personality helped bounce music make waves on the radio. His radio career dates back nearly 20 years.

Stokes is known for bringing New Orleans bounce music to the radio. “I was the first DJ in Nola history to have a radio mix show dedicated to Nola Bounce from 03-05 (up to Katrina),” he wrote in a Feb. 3 Facebook post. After Hurricane Katrina, Stokes relocated to Houston, where he hosted a mix show on local radio. His Rhythm and Bounce show was featured on Saturday nights on New Orleans AM station WBOK from 2013 to 2017, an era Stokes also spent DJing at clubs, bars and parties throughout the region. New Orleans DJ Black N Mild Dead at 44 From Coronavirus

According to several confirmed reports, New Orleans-based producer and DJ Oliver Stokes Jr. aka Black N Mild, died on Thursday after testing positive for Coronavirus. He was 44 years old.

The New Orleans Parish coroner’s office confirmed the cause of Stokes’ death one day after his passing.

Black N Mild was a pioneer of “Bounce music”, which premiered on Bounce 104.5FM in NOLA. BNM also hosted the ‘Rhythm and Bounce’ show for WBOK, an AM station in New Orleans.

The state of Louisiana has been pretty moderate in terms of numbers of Coronavirus cases, with the state at 585, but New Orleans is leading the state with 352 cases.
