On this date in 2007, Jay-Z released his American Gangster album, which also served as the soundtrack to the movie of the same name with Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe.

It was a conceptual album inspired by the film of the same name. The album spawned hits like “I Know,” “Roc Boys (And The Winner Is),” and “Blue Magic.” Guest features include Idris Elba, Lil Wayne, Beanie Sigel, and Nas. Production from Diddy, The Neptunes, Just Blaze, and The Hitmen.

American Gangster debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, selling 425,861 copies in the first week. This album tied Jigga with Elvis Presley for the second-most number-one albums. It was a commercial success and viewed as a good follow-up to Hov’s 2006 album Kingdom Come.

Denzel Washington and Diddy Reportedly Had Shouting Match at 2003 Party Over Disrespect

Denzel Washington to Lead Antoine Fuqua's Epic Untitled Hannibal Feature for Netflix

A past interaction between Diddy and Denzel Washington reportedly went wrong. According to an insider, Washington attended a party with his wife, Pauletta Washington, which led to a shouting match between the two.

According to an insider, this event happened in 2003, and Washington screamed, “You don’t respect anyone.”

“[He and Pauletta] had been partying until dawn, and they had seen something and stormed out,” the insider added.

A rep for neither star responded to Page Six, who initially reported.

While announcing forthcoming lawsuits of over 100 people who claim to be victims of Sean “Diddy” Combs, attorney Tony Buzbee stated there will be additional enablers to go down with the mogul.

“We will expose the enablers who enabled this conduct behind closed doors. We will pursue this matter no matter who the evidence implicates,” Buzbee said. “The day will come when we will name names other than Sean Combs, and there’s a lot of names. It’s a long list already, but because of the nature of this case, we are going to make damn sure — damn sure – that we’re right before we do that.”

He added, “The names will shock you.”

The lawsuits are expected to roll out across various states within the next 30 days and highlight those who were bystanders or encouraged the behavior. “I would imagine that as we speak here, there are a myriad of people who are very nervous. You can’t hide skeletons in the closet forever. I would expect there are many people out there right now who are desperately searching their memories as they delete their texts and data.”

Victims are allegedly as young as minors, including someone who was 9 years old.

T.I. Says He is a Combination of JAY-Z, 2Pac, and Two More Hip-Hop Icons

T.I. Recalls On Set Advice from Denzel Washington During 'American Gangster' Rehearsals

T.I. is undoubtedly the King of the South and a Hip-Hop legend. If you were to ask him who he is a combination of, his answer would be four titans of our genre: JAY-Z, 2Pac, Diddy and Snoop Dogg.

During an appearance on Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast, T.I. revealed that he sees his legends in his composition.

“I see myself as a hybrid kind of between, I guess, Jay, ‘Pac, Puff and like a Snoop, you know what I’m saying?” T.I. said. “I kind of hop in and out and take pages out of the book of legends, and I’ve been fortunate enough and blessed enough to be able to have these relationships where I could sit and engage and soak up game.”

T.I. would give more love to people like E-40, Master P, Jay Prince, and more in the conversation.

In the same conversation, T.I. recalled the year 2007, when he found himself alongside Denzel Washington in the film classic American Gangster.

T.I. played the nephew of Washington’s character, Frank Lucas, who was ditching a promising baseball future aside to join the family drug business.

T.I. recalls the moment Washington coached him through a scene and helped him combat his nerves.

“As we’re rehearsing I’m pacing back and forth,” T.I. said. “And he said, ‘What’s up, n-gga, You nervous?’ I’m like, ‘Man, I’m just making sure I don’t mess it up.’

“He said, ‘Here man, listen. They could have had anybody in here doing what you’re doing right now. They could have anybody in the world, they could have called anybody right here to do what you’re doing.’”

You can check out the full conversation below.

Flash forward to today, T.I. is still in his acting bag. Hitting theaters this weekend, T.I. will star alongside Power’s Joseph Sikora in the psychological horror film, Fear.

This psychological horror film follows a group of friends who gather for that typical friends weekend getaway at a remote and historic hotel. Their celebration takes a terrifying quick and sudden turn as each one of the guests has to face their own worst fear one by one thanks to a powerful force inside the hotel. The trailer shows the group sharing their biggest fears—some of which we can all relate to.

Film icon Samuel L. Jackson has received his first Oscar. The 73-year-old star was awarded an honorary Academy Award for his lifetime achievement. The award was given to him by his friend Denzel Washington at the Governor’s Award.

“Sam and I go back in the theater, the Goodman Theatre,” Washington said, according to PEOPLE. “We worked together even before that, at the Negro Ensemble Company. We did a pretty good play called The Soldier’s Play that became great movie, A Soldier’s Story. Wasn’t as good as it would’ve been had Sam been in it, but that’s for another day.”

“Who knows, that little kid from Chattanooga, Tennessee, watching movies, wishing he could be here to get the votes of people who run an organization like this that says, ‘Hey, I deserve something like this,’ thank you, so much,” Jackson said.

“They have written the third Equalizer, so I’m scheduled to do that,” Denzel Washington told Collider about returning to his revengeful series The Equalizer, which is currently in talks with the studio for a third installment. “So I gotta get in shape and start beating people up again. I get to beat people up again. The tragedy of Macbeth and then going and beating some people up. Can’t get any better, right?”

The Academy Award-winner revealed the project’s trilogy during the press run for his new film, The Tragedy of Macbeth. Sources close to the Equalizer director and longtime Washington collaborator Antonie Fuqua confirmed the third film currently in the negotiations phase but guaranteed to be the two’s next film. Fuqua is currently working on a new film with Will Smith, titled Emancipation. No official release date at press time. Washington and Fuqua worked on the series of two previous films – Washington’s only sequel film.

“In my mind, there’s a European adventure, absolutely. In my mind, that’s what I’d like, to see him in Europe, in the future. God willing,” says Washington.

To date, Washington and Fuqua’s chemistry has created four films, including The Magnificent Seven and Training Day, for which Washington won an academy award for “Best Actor” in 2001. Damson Idris Responds to Denzel Washington Not Knowing Who He Is

Damson Idris Is Set To Produce Snowfall Season 5

Damson Idris has been making big waves as Franklin Saint in the hit series Snowfall. Despite these moves, there are still people who don’t know who he is. One of those people is Denzel Washington.

Last week a clip circulated around social media of Denzel being interviewed while on the red carpet for his upcoming movie, A Journal For Jordan. The interviewer, Two Bees TV, told Washington that Damson had auditioned for the role of his son in the movie Fences, and is often compared to the legendary actor. Denzel then said that he did not know who Damson was.

“Who are you talking about?” responded Denzel. “I don’t know who that is… What show? Snowfall? No disrespect, Damson, no disrespect.”

Well, Damson saw the video and took to Twitter to make a joke out of it. “Call me Dancin Address from now on. I won’t answer to anything else,” Idris wrote on Twitter after seeing the clip of Washington.

Idris has stated in past interviews how Denzel is a big inspiration in his wanting to become an actor. During an interview in 2017, Idris stated “[Denzel is] phenomenal. I didn’t know I wanted to be an actor, but once it found me I looked at whom people were saying were great. I looked at who I wanted to be like. Not just in acting, but in their personal life as well. Being a well-rounded person, a fine example of good taste and prestige and class, that’s what I really chased, so he was the person that did it for me.”

I guess Denzel didn’t see the clip below.

Denzel Washington Recalls Encouraging Chadwick Boseman to Marry His Wife Months Before He Passed

Denzel Washington Says He Encouraged Chadwick Boseman to Marry His Wife

Denzel Washington executive produced Netflix’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom which marks Chadwick Boseman’s final performance.

During an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, Washington recalled his time on-set of the highly-anticipated movie.

Very few people knew he had an ongoing battle with colon cancer which ultimately took his life months after he finished filming this movie. “It’s fascinating that nobody knew,” Washington said. “Well, credit to him; he kept it to himself. It was nobody’s business. He was there to deliver, and he delivered.”

The Academy Award-winning actor said he encouraged his protege to marry his then-girlfriend, Taylor Simone Ledward, because of the way she took care of him.

“Certain members of his team knew. His wife was there. They weren’t even married yet,” he added. “And I used to watch how she took care of him, and I actually said to him, I said, ‘Man, you know, you need to put a ring on that finger’ ’cause she kept her eye on him, and she watched him. And I’m like, man, she loves that guy.”

Apparently, Chadwick took his advice because the couple secretly tied the knot before his untimely passing in August.

During a 2019 speech at the 50th NAACP Image Awards, Boseman thanked Ledward while accepting his speech for outstanding actor in a motion picture for his portrayal of T’Challa in Black Panther.

“Simone, you’re with me every day. I have to acknowledge you right now. Love you,” Chadwick said.
