Lil Wayne Says Roc-a-Fella Is the Only Worthy Opponent To Go Against Cash Money in a Verzuz

Lil Wayne Jay Z

Lil Wayne recently appeared on Marcellus Wiley’s More to It podcast where he revealed who he thinks is a worthy opponent to go against in a Verzuz battle with Cash Money Records.

“I would say the best competition, I would have to go with Roc-A-Fella,” he answered. “JAY-Z, the homie.”

People in the comments complained, saying that a Verzuz against Master P’s No Limit Records would make more sense as both labels were founded in New Orleans.

In the same interview, Wayne spoke about his respect for Jay-Z, calling him the greatest rapper of all time.

“The greatest rapper of all time is Shawn’ JAY-Z’ Carter. When you do this rapping thing, obviously like football, every sport is different. You play hockey, I’m sure they got something that they only know about. Something that they probably can’t explain, but only they know. That thing in rap, that we only know in rap, he has that. He’s the Tom Brady of that.”

In another interview with DJ Drama, Weezy said Hov once tried to sign him to Roc-A-Fella for $175,000. He likely turned down the deal because it wasn’t enough money.

“That man offered me 175 [thousand dollars]. I said, ‘Believe that.’ I was looking like… two teeth in my mouth is 175 [thousand dollars]. My bottom teeth. We laugh about that all the time,” Wayne said.

Today in Hip-Hop History: Cam’Ron Dropped His ‘Purple Haze’ Album 16 Years Ago

On this date in 2004, Cam’Ron released his fourth solo album entitled ‘Purple Haze’ released on the Diplomats, Roc-A-Fella, and Def Jam imprints.

This was the first solo album from the Dipset capo following the Dipset craze, where he switched from his obsession with the color pink to the more regal purple. Songs such as the anthemic “Down And Out” featuring a fairly new artist named Kanye West and Syleena Johnson, “Bubble Music” and “Adrenaline” featuring Twista and Psycho Drama help to popularize the highly anticipated album that took about a year to be released following several label delays during the Roc-A-Fella break up.

The album was propelled by samples from old soul and reggae music, which only helped to add to the LP’s popularity.

Salute to Cam, Dipset and everyone involved with this timeless Hip Hop gem!

Today In Hip-Hop History: Jay-Z Drops His ‘The Dynasty: Roc La Familia’ LP 19 Years Ago

On this date at the turn of the millennium, Jay-Z and his Rocafella cohorts released the only crew album of his career, The Dynasty: Roc La Familia.

Along with Memphis Bleek and the State Property clan from Philly including Peedi Crack, Beanie Sigel, Oschino, Sparks, Freeway and others, Hov brought the supergroup energy to this album that was seen as the pinnacle of Jay’s career; right before his Blueprint metamorphosis, which was the beginning of the mogul he is today.

Even with all of the star power on the album, there were still some stand out tracks on the LP exclusively released on the infamous Rocafella imprint including the Neptunes-produced ‘I Just Want To Love U(Give It To Me)”, the controversial “Guilty Until Proven Innocent” featuring the trouble-ridden R. Kelly and the old Kanye-produced “This Can’t Be Life” featuring Beanie and Geto BoysScarface. With additional production from the likes of Just Blaze, Rockwilder, Rick Rock and others, this album is one of Jigga’s standout projects of his illustrious career.

Salute to Jay, Biggs, Dame, Bleek and the rest of the Roc for this piece of Hip-Hop History!!

Dame Dash Speaks on NFL and Jay-Z Partnership: “Everybody Knows Jay Ain’t Sh*t”

Everyone has an opinion about Jay-Z and his new partnership with the NFL. Many have shared their views, but someone who once knew Jay very well has broken his silence.

Dame Dash is saying moves like that are common for the Hip-Hop billionaire. During an interview with the No Jumper podcast, Dash made it abundantly clear where he stands.

“Everyone knows Jay ain’t shit,” he says. “Listen, if you ask anyone in the industry, it’s common knowledge that Jay ain’t shit. He’s about the bag. We all know that. He’s self-preserving. Period.

“It’s just the people he does it to don’t have Beyoncé next to them. They don’t have that kind of a power. This dude here, everyone’s looking. It’s not even like a secret.”

“So I just think he kinda like—he used to do that sh*t…it’s not even like a secret,” Dame continued unabashedly. “He’d do that sh*t to me with girls. I’ll be talking to a chick and I’ll be like, ‘Yo, she asked me to do this, that and the third.’ And he’d be like, ‘I wouldn’t do it.’ And then the next day he’s done wifed her. And I’d be like, ‘Oh, that some funny sh*t.’ You know what you dealing with when you’re dealing with Jay. Jermaine Dupri, I fell like…again, for me to talk, it’s hard because I can’t completely be objective, but it’s the news of today. But, I just think if you look under the hood, all the answers will reveal themselves.”

Dame goes on to explain how insiders know when it comes to business, Jay is all about his bag. As we all should be. Clearly, from Dame’s comments on the podcast, we will not see a Roc-A-Fella reunion anytime soon.
