Reports have confirmed that a judge in South Florida will allow jurors in YNW Melly’s trial to recommend a death sentence with an 8-4 vote instead of a unanimous vote.

Broward Circuit Judge John Murphy is allowing the jurors to decide if Melly, who is facing two counts of first-degree murder, should face the death penalty or serve the rest of his life behind bars without the possibility of parole.

YNW Melly, whose real name is Jamell Demons, will be going on trial for the murders of his deceased crew members Chris Thomas, 20, aka YNW Juvy, and Anthony Williams, 21, aka YNW Sakchaser back in 2018.

Judge Murphy said his decision “was not fundamentally unfair for [Melly]… nor would it violate his right to due process of the law.”

Melly’s trial is set to begin later this month and he will be one of the first people to be tried under this new law allowing jurors to vote o a defendant’s life or death.

Melly has pleaded not guilty and currently sits behind bars with no bond.

ICYMI: YNW Melly Will Not Face Death Penalty In Double Murder Trial

ynw melly

YNW Melly, born Jamell Maurice Demons is celebrating a victory after Wednesday’s preliminary court hearing for his double murder trial.

A judge ruled that the death penalty is no longer in question. The “Murder On My Mind” rapper’s legal team was able to remove capital punishment from the sentencing based on a technicality.

His attorneys pointed out a specific rule in Florida’s criminal procedure, stating that prosecutors must give notice of the intent to seek the death penalty. The notice was never filed.

The 23-year-old Florida native was arrested in February 2019 on two counts of first-degree murder for the killings of his friends YNW Sakchaser, born Anthony Williams and YNW Juvy, born Christopher Thomas Jr. in 2018.

Demons and his co-defendant YNW Bortlen, born Cortlen Henry, allegedly staged their deaths to look like a result of a drive-by shooting but some investigating led police officers to believe that Melly was the one who pulled the trigger.

Florida is one of thirty states where capital punishment is legal. He could face life in prison if convicted later this year.

Ahmaud Arbery’s Mother Seeks Death Penalty for Everyone Involved in Her Son’s Execution

There’s a nationwide outcry for justice to be served for Ahmaud Arbery, who is yet another unarmed Black man who was gunned down simply for being Black.

His mother, Wanda Cooper-Jones, did an interview with TMZ on Tuesday and she made it clear that she wants her son’s murderers and accomplices to be jailed for life.

“I would like for all hands that were involved, that played a part in my son’s murder, to be prosecuted to the highest,” she said. “Coming from my point of view, my son died, so they should die, as well.”

Cooper-Jones added that she “would totally agree with” the death penalty.

The grieving mother told the tabloid she wanted the father and son who have been charged with Ahmaud Arbery’s murder, Gregory and Travis McMichael, and the camerman, William “Roddie” Bryan, to serve life sentences.

Arbery was gunned down in Georgia on February 23rd while jogging in a suburban neighborhood. After a video of the deadly incident surfaced online, Georgia authorities began to actually care about the case.

YNW Melly has been charged in the shooting death of two of his friends and staging the crime scene to look like a drive-by shooting. As the case develops, the state of Florida is examining the possibility of giving the once-rising artist the death penalty.

TMZ
reports:

As you know … YNW Melly has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder. Cops say the rapper shot two of his friends back in October, then staged the crime scene to look like a drive-by shooting.

According to new legal docs, obtained by TMZ, the State intends to seek the death penalty against Melly.

In the docs, the State says it believes it can prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Melly killed his friends for financial gain, the murder was especially heinous, atrocious or cruel, and he committed homicide in a cold, calculated and premeditated manner. The State also believes Melly is a criminal gang member.

Melly, real name Jamell Demons, and another man, Cortlen Henry, shot friends Anthony Williams and Christopher Thomas Jr. then allegedly drove around in a vehicle with the dead bodies before dropping them off to an ER.
