Single Review: Rapper Bo Blitz tears it up on pumping track ‘Swerve’

For fans of Outkast, inventive beats and bars with genuine flow, Bo Blitz might be the new voice that you’re looking for.

San Francisco rapper Bo Blitz has shared his latest single, ‘Swerve,’ a collab with ATB, showing once again why he’s considered one of the top emerging talents in the genre.

A constantly evolving musician – with a flow that he’s been refining for most of his life Blitz got the attention of many prominent figures in the music industry in 2022. A born hustler, he spent the last two years determined to learn about the business side of the industry, as well as continue to pen excellent tracks.

In the last 12 months alone, Bo has formed relationships with professional music artists and industry outlets, demonstrating his commitment to gaining international recognition. Blitz’s experience in the hip-hop world allowed him to collaborate with renowned musicians in the United States and abroad. This year, he got production assistance on his tracks from notable producers such as “Cosmo” from Wiz Khalifa’s Tailor Gang and “Anno Domini” from Anno Domination.

Blitz’s single ‘Swerve’ is a head-bopping firecracker of a song, with well-crafted, wavy beats courtesy of production and publishing company Around the Block.

Swerve’ is probably Blitz’s most effortlessly upbeat and enjoyable track. Over the song’s two and a half minutes, Bo Blitz ultimately revels in his inventive wordplay; he calls out to his city, shouts to his homies, and describes all the beautiful women he wants to get with along the way.

‘Swerve’ is also a reminder – if needed – that Blitz’s multi-rhyming skills are indeed off the charts. Every line on this track ends with a word that rhymes with ‘swerve’ – meaning everything comes back to the song’s title. And it shouldn’t need to be said by now, but Blitz is an absolute genius at making these rhythmically complex raps and intricate rhymes appear effortless. Listeners who take the time to hit repeat on this song and go over Blitz’s lyrics will encounter numerous unexpected gems, including the hilarious: “With a little patience(/patients), I could talk the scrubs of a nurse” and the equally enticing: “She got curves…is your body on the menu? Can I order some hors d’oeuvre?”

With his charismatic vocals (a la Andre 3000) yet brash, hard-hitting style (like Big Boi), Bo Blitz has been compared to both members of Outkast in the past. It’s a fair comparison because he genuinely is such a versatile rapper. But Blitz’s rapping style is also very much his own; it’s fresh and modern, and it never fails to chime beautifully with the production that underpins it.

An exciting emerging artist, we’ll be looking forward to hearing more Bo Blitz tracks in the near future
