R&B superstar R. Kelly is ready for some legal smoke. New reports claim Kells is ready to fire off a major lawsuit at TV network Lifetime pending the premiere of a six-part new documentary centered on his personal life.
According to reports, Kelly’s lawyer has issued a letter to Lifetime threatening serious legal action.
Kelly’s lawyer, Brian Nix, fired off a legal letter — obtained by TMZ — warning the network that its “Surviving R. Kelly” documentary is packed with lies. Nix threatens to file a federal lawsuit Thursday — the same day Lifetime’s set to air the special — if the network doesn’t relent. Kelly’s calling BS … saying the subjects made false allegations to become famous. What’s more … Kelly says he has 2 audio recordings — 5 minutes in duration — that show Lifetime knew “some of the girls are lying, but that the budget was too high to turn back now.” (TMZ)

In a new six-part Lifetime documentary called “Surviving R. Kelly” set to premiere tonight, ex-back-up dancer Jovante Cunningham talks about Kelly and Aaliyah.
“We were out on the road with Aaliyah,” she says. “On a tour bus, there really aren’t many confined spaces. When you get on the bus there are bunks and so these bunks have little curtains you can pull at night if you don’t want anybody to see you sleeping. … So it just so happened we were all laying in our bunks and the curtains are open, everybody’s communicating, laughing. When the [room] door flew open on the bus. Robert [R. Kelly] was having sex with Aaliyah.” (Rolling Out)

Back in the mid-90’s, rumors surfaced about Kelly and Aaliyah secretly getting married.
That same year, 1994, it was widely reported Kelly and Aaliyah had secretly married, though they both denied it. A subsequently unearthed marriage certificate listed his 15-year-old protegee’s age as 18; her parents had it annulled the following year. Kelly went on to become her mentor, as well as lead songwriter and producer of her double platinum debut album, the uncomfortably titled Age Ain’t Nothing but a Number. (Daily Mail)
