Pusha-T Remixes ‘Succession’ Theme Song

Pusha-T adds his golden touch to the “Succession” theme song.

Ahead of the second season finale of the HBO series, the Virginia kingpin unleashes his explosive remix, “Puppets (Succession Remix).” King Push adds his menacing bars while drawing on the show’s themes of family, money, envy, privilege, and betrayal. “My bloodline was not chosen,” he raps. “This bank account is not frozen / This thing of ours is not broken.”

Pusha agreed to remix the “Succession” opening theme after binge-watching the first season. “The greed, the resentment, the idea anybody is basically disposable — that’s a gangsta movie type of quality,” he told Vulture. “On ‘Succession,’ it’s involving family, it’s like, Whoa! It’s a bit more shocking. And so that’s what made the writing process fun, because I could use all of the street, gangster rap nuances and qualities and energy and incorporate it into the theme of the music. It was really just a dope exercise, honestly.”

The show’s composer Nicholas Britell personally called on Pusha to flip the theme song. “There was only one person on the list of people to reach out to. Of course it had to be Pusha,” said Britell. “There was no backup, there was no plan B. Pusha’s voice is like a missile!”

Hear Push pop off.
