Orb Nox – “They Can’t Catch Me” (Single Review)

Orb Nox is a rising rapper from Los Angles, Californa. He has just released his brand new single “They Can’t Catch Me” on all streaming services. With the track revolving around a plot about “a C.I.A. Agent that went rogue after they wanted him to implement an inhumane New World Order, that he ended up revoking,” the creativity is definitely there. Will Orb Nox be able to translate his drama into a hit single, or will he be just another edgy MC?

Starting things off, there are warping synths that build up to give a feeling of suspense. After about 16 seconds, the beat drops, and Orb Nox makes his vocal debut. With a soft yet menacing flow, Nox talks about the chaos going on in this world he has created. After talking about the dangers, he’s facing, the hook comes. While feeling a little dull, the guitar playing in the background works as its saving grace. The second verse shows Orb reminiscing on his past, which includes being taken from a foster home to train for the Central Intelligence Agency. Glooming on the journey that got him to his current situation, his thoughts wrap up to the songs second bridge. The third and final verse is more geared towards the society he lives in as he focuses on the evil droids and morgues that this new world is filled with. With creative rhymes and intricate wordplay, there is a fair amount of enjoyment to be found in this section. Closing the record, the hook plays out for the final 30 seconds.

In summary, “They Can’t Catch Me” is an exciting single that can be the start of one of  a prominent up and comers career. The presented concept is super cool and intriguing, but my gripes come from the fact that the lyrics feel way to in your face. If embedded more subtly, I think this song could truly be something great. If you’re like me and want to see what Orb Nox does next, be sure to follow @orbnoxmusic on Instagram!
