Nipsey Hussle’s Family Awarded Custody of Daughter

Nipsey Hussle’s family has been granted guardianship of his daughter.

A judge has signed off on Nipsey’s immediate family members becoming legal guardians to the rapper’s 10-year-old daughter, Emani. After providing sufficient evidence for their petition, his sister and brother, Samantha Smith and Sam Asghedom, and his mother, Angelique Smith, have been appointed as Emani’s guardians.

They were awarded custody over Emani’s biological mother, Tanisha Foster. Foster faced off in court with Nipsey’s brother and sister over the care of Emani, who has been living with Smith following the rapper’s death in March.

Nipsey’s family won custody by arguing that Foster was unfit to parent. Foster has a prior criminal record, including arrests in 2006 and 2007, and has reportedly been absent from her other two children’s lives.

Emani is expected to inherit half of Nipsey’s $2 million estate. The other half will go to his son Kross. Kross’ mother, Lauren London, has received approval from the court to manage her 3-year-old son’s estate. She will handle the $1 million in finances that Kross is set to inherit.

Nipsey was shot and killed outside his Marathon Clothing store in Los Angeles in March. Following his death, his sister Samantha vowed to take care of his family.

“I got Lauren. I got Emani. I got Kross. I got Sam, he is my responsibility now. He is my big little brother,” she wrote. “I got mommy and Granny and Pop. You gave me so many tools. You gave me so much insight. We will talk every second of everyday and I am here to carry out your vision. Ermias God Will Rise. I love you forever and I will cry forever. You are my lifeline as long as I am here you are too.”

Nipsey’s alleged killer, Eric Holder, has been charged with murder, two counts of attempted murder, and one count of possession of a firearm.
