Michelle Obama Sends Message to Little 4 yr. old Black Girl Who Went Viral for Wrongly Believing She Was ‘Ugly’

Many Black women across the world can relate to looking in the mirror and not seeing beauty. It is not that it is not there. They don’t see it because of the predominance and celebration of European ideals of beauty so prevalent in media, literature and pop culture.

Sociological test after test, prove that Black girls are particularly susceptible to low self-esteem based on seeing their dark skin as ugly and unattractive.

That’s why Little Ariyonna’s heartbreaking story has touched Black America so completely. And why people like her hairdresser, Shabria who goes by the IG name @lilwavedaddy, are so important to the protection of #BlackGirlMagic.

Ariyonna sobs, “I’m so ugly.” And immediately Shabria became her fairy-godmother, sprinkling the pixie dust of affirmation upon the girl. Now… she tried to drown her with them as if she was in triage and the only way to get rid of the infection of words like “ugly” is with words like “no you are beautiful.”

Check out the video of her sweet act to repair the brokenness of this 4-year-old girl.

This act of kindness went viral… and one person chimed in with words that one day, Ariyonna will sure understand, embrace and hopefully treasure.

The forever FLOTUS, Michelle Obama took to her own Instagram and posted this in her story (which was captured by Shabria and shared with our darling girl.)

“Ariyonna, you are gorgeous. In a world that sometimes tries to say otherwise, I want to tell you — and every other beautiful, intelligent, brave black girl — just how precious you are.” She posted.

Ariyonna, we think you are beautiful too. We want dimples also!
