Amidst being nominated for a plethora of awards for her performance in A Star Is Born, megastar Lady Gaga took some time to address the cloud of controversy sounding R. Kelly. The documentary, Surviving R. Kelly, not only shed light on the years of allegations of sexual abuse, pedophilia and brainwashing teenage girls in a sex cult but also all the artist who worked with R. Kelly during his trial and his reputation as a sexual predator.

Lady Gaga collaborated with the “Seems Like Your Ready” singer in 2013 on their track “Do You What You Want (With My Body).” Gaga and Kelly performed the song together on Saturday Night Live and at the American Music Awards.

Gaga took to Twitter to offer her apologies and to explain why she worked with Kelly.

“As a victim of sexual assault, myself, I made both the song and the video at a dark time in my life, my intention was to create something extremely defiant and provocative because I was angry and still hadn’t processed the trauma that had occurred in my own life. The song is called ‘Do What U Want (With My Body),’ I think it’s clear how explicitly twisted my thinking was at the time,” Gaga said in the statement.

Also, in the Twitter post, Gaga pledged to remove the song from iTunes and all other platforms where the song can possibly be played.
