Keri Hilson Readies New Music for Summer

The wait is over. Ten years since releasing her debut album, Keri Hilson is ready to make her return.

On the anniversary of In a Perfect World…, the singer took to Instagram to announce that her hiatus is over and new music is coming this summer.

“Today marks 10 years since the release of my first studio album, In A Perfect World…,” Hilson told fans. “I didn’t mean to be gone so long, I only needed my real world to be perfect…it is now. Thank you for your patience. The wait is over. I’m ready. Summer 2019.”

The 36-year-old singer released her sophomore album No Boys Allowed in 2010, but has been mostly quiet since then. Last month, she opened up about the reason for the nine-year delay.

“My truth is, I’d love nothing more than to release this incredible music I’ve been ‘sitting on,’ and I’ve been trying for years for that to occur,” she told her Instagram followers. “There have been so many blockages I have constantly fought myself to not directly speak about…wisdom. I’ve lost some pivotal characters in the process of stepping away for my wellbeing…though I was prepared for the possibility that some wouldn’t understand or lose faith in me as an artist while I dealt w/ the trials of my life, it still hurts.”

Despite alluding to “challenges that I still must overcome,” she was hopeful that her music would once again see the light of day. “I will emerge from this cocoon just as beautifully as I have overcome the other processes in my life that were designed to grow me,” she said.

In a 2017 interview with “The Real,” she revealed that her third album would be titled L.I.A.R., an acronym for Love Is a Religion. “There are so many similarities between religion and love,” she explained. “If we believe this will work, then we will do what it takes and we will be obedient. We’ll do what it takes to make it work. It’s religious. You gotta be that committed to making love work.”
