CupcakKe Hospitalized After Suicidal Tweet

CupcaKKe was rushed to the hospital after tweeting about committing suicide.

The 21-year-old rapper, whose real name is Elizabeth Harris, sent social media into a panic when she revealed suicidal thoughts. “Im about to commit suicide,” she wrote on Monday evening (Jan. 7).

Social media quickly took action and reached out for help. The Chicago Police Department subsequently transported CupcaKKe to the hospital for evaluation.

“Officers went out a few times to check on Elizabeth. Once they got in touch with her, they took her to hospital—not for her injuries—but for a mental evaluation,” police told BBC’s Radio 1 Newsbeat.

Shortly after tweeting, CupcakKe returned to social media to thank her supporters. “Thank you for everything y’all have done for me,” she captioned a screenshot of her tweet. “I really appreciate it.”

Her friend, comedian Elijah Daniel, told fans that the police had received several concerned calls and were trying to locate her address. After arriving at her location, they performed a wellness check and took her to the hospital.

“Ive never felt so relieved and sad at the same time, @CupcakKe_rapper i love you more than you’ll ever know,” Daniel tweeted. “You’re one of the sweetest souls ive ever had the pleasure of knowing, and you’re not leaving us. we won’t let it happen.”

He later provided fans with another update, assuring them that CupcakKe was safe. “Police not able to give me anymore details other than Elizabeth is OKAY and at the hospital.”

In August, CupcakKe shared her battle with depression. “So I wasn’t gone say nothing but I try to be as positive as possible but I just want to say I’m at a very low & depressed point in my life,” she tweeted. “I didn’t realize it until I went 4 days without eatting , I kn this may not make sense but food made me happy , people made me happy also.”

Iggy Azalea, who CupcakKe was scheduled to tour with on last year’s “Bad Girls Tour,” was among those who expressed concern. “Sending love to @CupcakKe_rapper,” tweeted Iggy. “I understand how hopeless and overwhelmed with negativity we can sometimes feel. I hope you’ll take some time with those that really know YOU best; then when you’re ready come back stronger than ever!”

Her “I Got It” collaborator Charli XCX also penned a heartfelt note to her friend. “You are one of the most unique, genuine and loving people I have ever met in this industry,” she wrote. “You are such a HUGE inspiration so many kids, to so many artists, to me. Whenever you walk into a room or onto a stage you exude so much LOVE and the energy in the room turns electric.”
