A$AP Rocky Could Get Millions From Sweden If Found Not Guilty

Sweden may have to pay A$AP Rocky millions if he’s cleared in his assault case.

According to TMZ, Swedish law says that if someone is charged with a crime and is found not guilty, the country could be liable for all the money the victorious defendant lost as a result of incarceration and trial.

A$AP has been in jail for nearly three weeks and it’s likely that he will be formally charged with aggravated assault. It’s unlikely that he will be released from jail once he’s charged, because Sweden considers him a flight risk.

By the time he goes to trial, months may have passed, and he will have missed more scheduled gigs. He’s already had to cancel 12 shows and is booked for seven more through September. The longer he sits in jail, the more money he loses. TMZ estimates that it could be north of $2 million by the time the trial is over.

However, there’s no guarantee he would be entitled to the money. The law says the country “may” be forced to pay a victorious defendant.

Rocky remains in jail while prosecutors decide whether to charge him with aggravated assault. Formal charges are expected Thursday. If convicted, he faces six years in Swedish prison.

Meanwhile, his mother, Renee Black, thinks race may be a factor in her son’s case. “I don’t want to pull the race card, but that’s what it’s looking like. So if it walk like a duck and it quack like a duck, then it’s a duck,” she told TMZ.

Black spoke to her son last week and said he “sounded OK under the circumstances,” but he’s ready to come home. “I feel like Sweden is making an example out of our boys and it’s so unjust,” she said.
