Hip-hop was a mixed bag of reactions after the reveal that Travis Scott would join Maroon 5 on the Super Bowl stage. For Hip-Hop, it finally puts the genre on one of the biggest stages in the world. For the culture, the question arises if this is the proper time due to the issues stemming from Colin Kaepernick’s protests. Among those who feel a way regarding Travis’ decision is JAY-Z, who reportedly reached out to La Flame in order to keep “Sicko Mode” and other bangers from the stage in Atlanta.
Back in the summer, Hov spit:
I said no to the Super Bowl: you need me, I don’t need you
Every night we in the end zone, tell the NFL we in stadiums too
Flash forward to today and Travis is not saying no to the NFL, but according to Variety Hov is hoping that he would reconsider. Reps for both Travis and Jigga were unable to be reached by the publication. It is also reported that Cardi B and Big Boi will also have time on the Super Bowl Stage, making for one of the more Hip-Hop heavy productions in the halftime history.
