The Dream Seeks Dismissal of Lawsuit Filed by Former Protégée, Denies Allegations

the dream

Music producer The Dream, known for his work with artists like Beyoncé, has filed to have a lawsuit dismissed that was brought against him by his former protégée, Chanaaz Mangroe. The lawsuit, filed two months ago, accuses The Dream of using his industry connections and deceit to lure Mangroe into a manipulative relationship.

The Dream, whose real name is Terius Gesteelde-Diamant, has strongly denied these allegations, insisting that their relationship was consensual and accusing Mangroe of fabricating a “false and defamatory narrative” for financial gain. According to court documents obtained by In Touch, The Dream’s legal team has moved to dismiss the lawsuit, arguing that the claims are baseless and part of a strategy to tarnish his reputation and extract a settlement.

“[Chanaaz] and her counsel, Wigdor LLP, are using the judicial system to propagate a false and defamatory narrative about [The Dream], a highly respected Black musician in the arts industry, for their own financial gain and to his extreme detriment—and to the destruction of everything he has ever done as a musician and as a Black figure that the current and new art generations look up to,” The Dream’s attorney stated in the court filings.

The lawsuit alleges that The Dream, 46, engaged in sexual assault and manipulation, but The Dream has firmly denied these accusations. His attorney emphasized that The Dream has a history of advocating for women and supporting women’s causes, and that Mangroe’s claims are not only untrue but also damaging to his personal and professional life.

“[Chanaaz] and [The Dream] were two adults who engaged in a brief and consensual courtship. There was never non-consensual sex between them; there was never sex exchanged for money or other commercial gain; and [The Dream] never abused [Chanaaz] in any way,” the attorney wrote. The documents further assert that Mangroe continued to seek out The Dream for years after their relationship ended, including soliciting sex and other favors, even when he refused.

As the case develops, it highlights the ongoing issues of power dynamics and allegations of misconduct in the entertainment industry. The Dream’s legal team is pushing for the lawsuit’s dismissal, but the court’s decision on the matter is still pending.

The-Dream Calls Sexual Abuse Allegations ‘Untrue and Defamatory’

The DreamSaysRihanna'sAlbumis'AboutDone,'HintsBeyonceis'DoingSomething'

The-Dream has issued a response to allegations of sexual abuse in a lawsuit filed in California federal court. The-Dream, born Terius Gesteelde-Diamant, issued the following statement:

“These claims are untrue and defamatory. I oppose all forms of harassment and have always strived to help people realize their career goals. As someone committed to making a positive impact on my fellow artists and the world at large, I am deeply offended and saddened by these accusations.”

According to TMZ, The-Dream is accused of sexual battery, abuse, and trafficking of his former protégé.

The Dream is being sued by Chanaaz Mangroe, citing the artist coerced her into a relationship by promising a singing career and received “violent sexual acts and vicious psychological torture.”

Mangroe stated her work visa was extended by The-Dream in 2014 to develop her career. She was a native of The Netherlands. During her stay, Mangroe stated she was subject to a year-plus of a very abusive, violent, and manipulative relationship.

In addition, Mangroe stated she was left naked and alone for hours in a dark room where she was subject to violent sex and was also “frequently strangled,” nearly losing consciousness on several occasions.

Additionally, Mangroe states some of the sexual acts are recorded and were used as a means to keep her silent. On the music end, she never saw a result of her work and was never paid.

“Ultimately, my silence has become too painful, and I realized that I need to tell my story to heal,” Mangroe says. “I hope that doing so will also help others and prevent future horrific abuse.”

Beyoncé’s Three-Act Project: Is A Second Release Imminent?

Beyonce

Beyoncé fans have been eagerly anticipating the release of her three-act project, and recent comments from singer, songwriter, and producer The Dream have sparked even more excitement.

‘MY HOUSE’

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter on Tuesday, Jan. 9, The Dream opened up about his collaboration with Beyoncé on Renaissance. The singer-songwriter discussed his challenges in crafting the track “MY HOUSE,” which was prominently featured in Renaissance: A Film By Beyoncé.

The concert-documentary film delved into the creation of Queen Bey’s record-breaking Renaissance World Tour, which was released on Dec.1. Dream stated:

“How do we wrap Renaissance up in a way without also trying to compete with it or make something that’s light-Renaissance, because Renaissance is a special thing?”

Dozens of fans were excited to hear of the news of a possible release of “ACT 2,” as one user named @TonyTh3King wrote, “Most folks ain’t picked their Renaissance wigs up off the floor yet. You know I’m ready tho sis @Beyonce let’s go!”

ACT 2?

However, some fans believe that others are being rather ‘delusional.’ One user named @StevenKlenk wrote, “Maybe I’m delusional but am I the only one that thinks that they would have said “how do we wrap up THE Renaissance” if they really meant they were wrapping up the era? To me this sentence reads “how do we wrap up Renaissance” (a film by Beyonce) since it’s the credit song, idk.”

Queen Bey herself has referred to Renaissance as “ACT I,” hinting at the existence of subsequent acts. In a 2022  message preceding the release of her seventh studio album, she wrote:

“This three act project was recorded over three years during the pandemic. A time to be still, but also a time I found to be the most creative.”

R.I.P. Tina Turner

Additionally, rumors have surfaced that the “CUFF IT” singer will be performing a tribute to the late Tina Turner at this year’s 66th Annual Grammy Awards. Although the news has been confirmed by the Today Show, Beyoncé has yet to make an official announcement.

‘The Book of Clarence’ Soundtrack

While Beyoncé’s devoted fans eagerly await “ACT 2” of her Renaissance, other artists have also returned to music. Neo-soul icon D’Angelo recently returned after an eight-year hiatus, collaborating with Jay-Z on the soundtrack for the thought-provoking film Book of Clarence.

The-Dream Addresses Colorism Accusations Following Resurfaced ‘Signed’ Clip

The-Dream Addresses Colorism Accusations Following Resurfaced 'Signed' Clip

Rick Ross, Lenny S., and The-Dream all hosted a VH1 talent search series called Signed, that resurfaced last weekend after a controversial clip went viral.

In the clip, the judges praise contestant, Just Brittany, for her rendition of Rick Ross’ “Aston Martin Music” even though many thought another contestant, Kaiya, had the better version. Viewers thought Brittany ultimately won the show because of her complexion and looks.

The-Dream was prompted to defend himself after the clip made its rounds.

“I’m completely surprised by even the smallest amount of people that would ever test my Blackness and my love for my people and my culture in everyshade esp. the darkest of u,” he wrote. “I’m not overly surprised. But as much as I’ve done to move women forward through songs and always Being the one that make sure shit looks a certain way.”

“I’m sure every director and every artist or person who have saw me work and been around me know exactly how I prefer things. Black ass fuck all the time. With all I’ve done this is what y’all have for me,” he continued. “Now me I’m not black enough even though I walked out of labels left 5ms cause race shit.”

The-Dream’s remarks comes after Kaiya spoke to The Shade Room about the outpour of support she’s received since the clip made its way to the World Wide Web.

“The resurfacing of the video is so surreal,” Kaiya told The Shade Room. “I’m humbled that a lot of people have come out in support of my journey. Colorism is a topic that needs to be discussed wholly and not summed up in one response, but it’s very disheartening to know so many go through this male or female. To pin Black women and men against one another, or make it where some are seen superior is sad. As the years go on, I hope it’s being addressed and rectified in the future.”

The Original Version Of Jay-Z’s “Holy Grail” Featuring The Dream Is Here [Listen]

The-Dream

Source: photo: WENN

Admittedly this pandemic is one of the worst things that can happen to the human race. In this crisis Terius Nash proved again that sharing from a digital distance is the best caring.

As spotted on Hypebeast some pretty entertaining beat battles occurred over the weekend that produced some very memorable moments that Hip-Hop fans would normally not be privy too. In spirit of Hit-Boy and Boi-1da’s thrilling beat battle two of the game’s most critically acclaimed songwriter’s went back to back in stunning fashion. Sean Garrett versus The Dream resulted in an unreleased gem.

After trading some of their most cherished hit records the “That’s My Sh*t” crooner upped the ante and dropped the original version of Jay-Z’s “Holy Grail”. While Garrett was talking to someone off camera the song still set the internet on fire with Dream’s noticeably much more goose bump worthy rendition of the introduction and hook. So much so the song is now officially available to the world.

On Sunday, March 29 the self proclaimed Radio Killa announced on his Instagram that Tidal heard the masses and are now exclusively streaming the demo version. “Holy Grail Original Demo! Produced and Written by The-Dream and Jay Z @rocnation @radiokillarecords @tidal recorded by @pat_thrall and @bschoudel”.

Fans who missed the showdown live can check out the set of songs played via this playlist.
