Mi$tuh G Returns After 4 Years to “Keep It G” (Album Review)

This is the sophomore effort from Sacramento, California emcee/producer Mi$tuh G. Emerging within the underground at the beginning of this current ongoing decade off the strength of his full-length debut G Files, I myself subsequently found myself being introduced to his music in the summer of 2020 back when the whole world shut down as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic through his debut EP G.W.O. (G-World Order) conceptually revolving around all the events that had transpired at that point. He & Mak7teen brought Your Worst Nightmare to life a year later & is returning over 4 years later to Keep It G.

After the “Brandon Voicemail” intro, the first song “Flow” is this off-the-trap opener having y’all begging for another dose whereas “G’s Back” featuring Mak7teen works in more hi-hats continuing to take an eerier route atmospherically talking about coming back after 3 years. “Slide Out” brings a symphonic trap flare to the instrumental encouraging to send him the addy just before “The Best” featuring Lil Sicx & T Nutty brings the trio together sampling “The Message” by Grandmaster Flash & the Furious 5 except it has a g-funk twist entering a whole nother dimension.

“Not At All” moves on from there by taking it to the Bay cussing a bitch our on her cap leading into “Hangin’ Out the Window” keeps the pianos & hi-hats in tact getting in his braggadocio bag. Oakland veteran & the Crown Prince of Hyphy Mistah F.A.B. provides Keep It G’s best feature on the misty trap cut “Payin’ Dues” gettin’ their hustle on & after the “KM Radio” skit, “Remember the Name” gives off a vibrant yet soulful approach to the beat looking to separate himself from evil ties.

The ominous trap approach throughout “Revenue” is pretty cool making it clear he’s all about the income & after the “E-Moe Voicemail” skit, “That’s Mi$tuh G” charismatically retains his championship by the end of the song forever staying on the grind the penultimate track “Better Dayz” featuring Lace Leno nears the conclusion of the album looking for brighter days ahead of them. YFN Lucci surprisingly alongside YFN Traepound join G for the trap closer “Mafia” to live high so they ain’t gotta deal with lowlives.

Even I myself was curious as to what’s been going on with Mi$tuh G as of late & to hear that he’s back after so long with an entire LP of new material was just what I needed. Quite possibly better than the EP that put me onto his music few years ago. He’s most certainly grown from both an artistic & a personal perspective since then G makes that apparent, staying true to himself & having a tighter guest-list in comparison to G.W.O. (G-World Order).

Score: 7/10

Mi$tuh G & Mak7teen – “Your Worst Nightmare” (Album Review)

This is the brand new collaborative effort between California horrorcore emcees Mi$tuh G & Mak7teen. We’ve heard them on a handful of joints in the past whether it be “G World Order” as well as “Disconnect the Doubt” or even Don Blanco’s “Good Name”, so it was only a matter of time for the duo to come together in a full-length capacity with Your Worst Nightmare.

After the intro, D-Dubb & Lil Sicx come along the atmospheric yet paranoia-themed title track whereas “Smoke” is a glitchy barnburner. Meanwhile on “Know What I Mean”, we go into a more spacious direction as they talk about leaving the murder scene untraceable while “Listen Close” is a grungy trap cut where both of them speak to the higher power. After the “What Are Nightmares?” skit, chopper extraordinaire Twisted Insane stops through for the cold-blooded “Slippin’” leading into the futuristic albeit dejecting “Stay Outta My Face”.

“Off the Gas” if you couldn’t tell is a psychedelic weed anthem & even though I don’t care for Lace Leno’s verse on “Get Yo Money”, I love the diabolical production & it’s theme about stacking your bread. The track “Big Talkin’” gets braggadocious over a bouncy instrumental while the penultimate song “You Ain’t Really” with Fon Check is a dramatic shot at wankstas. After the “Wake Up” skit, “Forever” is a woozy closer with Agape joining Mi$tuh G & Mak7teen to tell their significant others that they’ll always love them.

I was wondering how this would turn out given how dope they sounded together on the 2 songs off G.W.O. (G World Order) & was not let down by it at all. I fuck with the aggressive trap production & their chemistry sounds better than ever before.

Score: 7/10

Mi$tuh G – “G.W.O.” (EP Review)

Mi$tuh G is an up-&-coming MC/producer from Sacramento, California who just happened to drop his full-length debut G Files at the very beginning of 2020. But as we approach the halfway point of year, he’s continuing the grind with an 8-track EP.

After the titular intro, we go into the first song “Apokalypse”. Where G shows off his chopping skills touching down on 2020 in a nutshell over a gloomy instrumental. The next track “I Heard” finds him comparing & contrasting himself to anyone who opposes him over a trap beat with some plucky strings while the song “Kreep” with Twisted Insane sees the 2 getting on the horrorcore tip over a foreboding instrumental.

The track “G World Order” speaks on social distancing & quarantining during the COVID pandemic over a beat with some ominous keyboards while the song “Riot” with Lil Sicx sees the 2 talking about the riots that took place as a result of George Floyd’s murder over an unsettling instrumental. The penultimate track “Trap Drill” talks about finding a way to make money over an eerie beat & then the EP finishes off with “Disconnect the Doubt”, where G teams up with Mak7teen & Andre Elix to get on the conscious over a more atmospheric instrumental.

I highly recommend checking this EP out if you want to get into the dude because it’s a short yet solid body of work. The features are just ok, but I think Mi$tuh G does a really good job at tackling all the events that’ve been going on throughout the year & I can only see him going up in the future.
