Warriors Star To Wear Meek Mill Sneakers Tonight To Push Prison Reform

DeMarcus Cousins

Golden State Warriors star DeMarcus Cousins is giving Meek Mill a huge look. New reports claim the NBA All-Star is set to don a pair of Puma sneakers aimed at promoting prison reform.

According to reports, Cousins is lacing up the must-see woke kicks tonight (January 24) as his Warriors take on the Washington Wizards in DC.

Meek teamed up with Puma to launch the new Clyde Court #REFORM kicks — the profits of the shoe will go to Meek’s Reform Alliance whose mission is to reform the probation and parole system in the U.S. Everything about the shoe has a special meaning. The black coloring represents the American prison system. The red symbolizes the blood and sacrifice of those who have fought for justice. Gold stands for future victories. (TMZ)

There is also serious messaging from the bottom to the top of Cousins’ sneakers.

The shoe’s color, black, represents the American prison system. The red message on the bottom of the shoe, #Reform, represents the blood and sacrifice of those who have fought for justice. Gold accents represents future victories. Finally, there is a message from activist Tommie Smith, who along with John Carlos shed his shoes and raised a gloved fist on the winners’ podium after medaling in the 200-meter dash — Smith winning gold, and Carlos bronze — at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City. This week, Meek Mill teamed up with a few high-profile celebrities including JAY-Z to launch criminal justice reform organization REFORM.

At REFORM, we #FightDifferent. Our collective disgust with the current state of the American criminal justice system is creating a powerful, growing alliance that spans different backgrounds, industries and political beliefs. We are bringing together leaders in business, government, entertainment, sports, technology, art, and culture to give voice to the voiceless. We won’t stop until we’ve changed the laws, policies, and practices that perpetuate the horrific injustice we’re seeing in America. The Alliance started with the unjust re-imprisonment of recording artist @MeekMill due to minor technical probation violations. The shocking two-to-four year sentence Meek received in November 2017 spurred the international #FreeMeek movement, which led to his release on bail in April 2018. Although Meek had the resources and public platform to fight his case, he and the other founders recognized Meek’s case is only one of millions – and that the vast majority of people trapped in the system don’t have the resources to fight back. After Meek’s release, we joined forces and committed to changing mass supervision laws (probation and parole policies) that will have the greatest impact on the largest number of people. The mission of the REFORM Alliance is to dramatically reduce the number of people who are unjustly under the control of the criminal justice system – starting with probation and parole. To win, we will leverage our considerable resources to change laws, policies, hearts and minds.
