YNW Melly Believes He Will Beat Double Homicide Charges in Next 6 Months

a

YNW Melly recently told one Hip-Hop blogger that he will be home from jail this year. According to DJ Akademiks who says he spoke to the currently incarcerated rapper, Melly said “I’m coming home 2020.”

The “Murder on My Mind” rapper is currently locked up on double homicide charges in Florida. According to police, Melly allegedly shot and killed two of his former friends while his affiliate YNW Bortlen attempted to stage the shooting as a drive by.

Melly was arrested in February 2019, and plead not guilty in March 2019. Investigators claim they have more than enough evidence that places the rapper at the scene of the murder. Soon after Melly’s not guilty plea, the prosecution moved to seek the death penalty.

Melly’s career was on the rise before he was incarcerated, but it seems to have taken new leaps and bounds after he was the subject of the murder investigation. The “Murder on My Mind” single reached RIAA Gold status while Melly was behind bars.

YNW Bortlen who allegedly staged the murder was released on bond and house arrest on May 23. Melly was recently diagnosed with COVID-19 while in jail but was denied release.

YNW Melly Co-Defendant YNW Bortlen Released On Bond and Given House Arrest

YNM Melly friend and co-defendant YNW Bortlen was granted release on bond this week in Broward County, Florida. Bortlen will be allowed to serve house arrest while word on YNW Melly’s release has not been made public.

On Sunday (May 24), attorney John M. Phillips, who is co-counsel with Bortlen’s lead attorney Fred Haddad, took to Twitter and shared court documents detailing the approval for Bortlen’s release on bond and house arrest.

The document noted that YNW Melly refused to testify against his co-defendant YNW Bortlen, stating “The court has already found the release of the defendant should occur. Indeed, the state has opposed in every way the release of the Defendant in its determined effort to coerce the Defendant to testify against his Co-Defendant, which he refused to do.”

Bortlen, born Cortlen Malik Henry, was initially charged with two counts of First Degree Murder and Two Counts of accessory after the fact for what court documents allege his involvement was in the murder of YNW Juvy and YNW Sakchaser.

Back on February 13, 2019, Miramar, Fla Police Department posted a statement on Twitter accusing Melly and Bortlen of staging the scene of the crime to look as though it was a drive-by shooting.

With the release of Bortlen, fans are hoping that YNW Melly will receive a bond and/or be released as well. Although reports have surfaced claiming that Melly has a shot to be freed, the victim’s attorney isn’t convinced.

On Monday, Attorney John M.Phillips, who is representing one of the alleged victims, YNW Juvy took to Twitter where he called the rapper’s fans “beyond delusional” for thinking that Melly would be released.

The rapper is currently facing the death penalty and prosecutors are not letting up. Melly is set for trial later this year, where a jury will ultimately determine his fate.

YNW Melly Clip

Florida rapper YNW Melly is keeping hope alive. After moniker-sharing friend and assosciate YNW Bortlen received bond prior to the pair’s trial for the murder of two friends, Melly took to social media to update fans on his situation.

Melly x Update

This past weekend, YNW Melly left a comment on Instagram to show support for his day one friend, YNW Bortlen. A post with the same caption was made to his account, where he also promised followers he’d be home soon as well.

Good News

This past weekend, Bortlen was granted bond and is expected to remain on house arrest until their trial.

According to attorney John M. Phillips, who represents the family of one of the victims, Christopher “YNW Juvy” Thomas, Jr., Melly will remain behind bars until trial. Bortlen was charged with two counts of first degree murder and two counts of accessory after the fact for allegedly working with Melly to kill their crew members YNW Juvy and YNW Sakchaser. Bortlen will be granted release once he puts up collateral worth “in excess of ninety thousand dollars,” according to legal documents obtained by Complex. He will then be under house arrest, and subject to GPS tracking. Phillips made a statement about the case on Twitter, stating, “The victim’s family understands the release but does not agree with it. They hope for full justice and safety of all witnesses.” – (Complex)

Wait, There’s More

Earlier this year, Melly suffered behind bars with coronavirus. He recently tested positive for COVID-19 back in April 2020 and was reportedly suffering from body aches, headaches, a fever and other symptoms. According to reports, Melly had been getting treated for COVID-19. The rap newcomer was reportedly receiving Gatorade and Tylenol as treatment solutions.

Sources familiar with Melly’s situation behind bars tell us he continues to have labored breathing, body aches and headaches while in Broward County Jail, awaiting trial for double murder. We’re told he still has a high temperature and chills, particularly at night — and is getting Gatorade and Tylenol to ease the virus’ effects. While our sources say Melly’s been isolated from his cellmate, who also tested positive, we’re told jail staff is not checking on Melly every hour as they’re supposed to be. We broke the story … the judge in Melly’s case denied his request for release. He wanted to be able to get COVID-19 treatment on his own, but the judge said he must request special medical treatment from the Broward Sheriff’s Office if needed. (TMZ)

Before You Go

The rap star’s lawyer Bradford Cohen recently filed an emergency motion for his release for medical care, but it did not receive a green light from a judge. It was filed after his camp claimed the hip-hop rising star was suffering immensely and possibly at risk of getting infected by coronavirus.

In his order, the judge says if Melly needs special medical treatment while in jail, he can request it from the Broward Sheriff’s Office. This should come as good news for the families of Melly’s alleged victims, who opposed the rapper’s release request … stating he didn’t deserve it and could potentially be a threat to them and other witnesses. Cohen says Melly weighs 114 pounds and has NOT been monitored by medical personnel every hour like they’re supposed to. (TMZ)
