The Wu-Tang Clan District Becomes Official in Staten Island

As one of the greatest groups in Hip-Hop history, the legendary Wu-Tang Clan has received every honor imaginable. But the having a district named after them in their hometown of Staten Island has to be at the very top.

On Saturday (May 4th), Lawmakers unveiled the Wu-Tang Clan District, which was approved in a unanimous vote last December, during a ceremony in the Park Hill neighborhood of their youth. Councilwoman Debi Rose in a series of tweets paid tribute to the “C.R.E.A.M” conglomerate.

“The Wu-Tang Clan District is a celebration of their inspiration to the world — and a celebration of their home, Shaolin,” she wrote. “The Wu-Tang Clan turned their experiences growing up here into something that now resonates with people all over the world, with young people who live in urban settings, young people whose neighborhoods are underserved, young people who face economic and social challenges.”

Raekwon The Chef also shared a video of the unveiling in a post on Facebook on Saturday afternoon. “Thank You Staten Island, New York,” he wrote.

Check out the video below of Ghostface Killah aka Tony Starks expressing his gratitude for the honor.
