Busta Rhymes Drops ‘The Don and The Boss’ Featuring Vybz Kartel

Screen Shot 2020 08 21 at 8.44.02 AM

As promised, Busta Rhymes closed out a week of news and excitement with the release of “The Don and The Boss,” the first single from his highly anticipated tenth studio album E.L.E. (Extinction Level Event) 2: The Wrath of God. Driven by an ominous beat, the song finds both Busta, The Donand featured artist Vybz Kartel, The Boss, in peak trash-talk mode, reaffirming their status as kings of the rap game and the dancehall, respectively. The track also serves to set the tone for the forthcoming album: “Busta Rhymes a di champion. You could neva find a betta option,” he states plainly at a top of a verse delivered fully in Jamaican Patois.

Produced by Schife, who has previously worked with the likes of DJ Khalid, Gucci Mane, and Rick Ross, “The Don and The Boss” becomes Busta’s third collaboration with Vybz Kartel over the course of their decade-long brotherhood. And adding to the mystic around Kartel’s career, both previous collaborations – “Wine & Go Down” and “Girlfriend” – were released while the dancehall megastar was incarcerated. The artist known to his fans as “The Worl’ Boss” has dominated the dancehall scene in the U.S. since his 2010 single “Clarks,” made him a mainstay even in Hip-Hop DJs’ playlists. Sadly, he has been unable to revel in that success, as he is currently serving a life sentence for a 2014 murder conviction. Kartel has always maintained his innocence and continues to appeal his sentence, with the full support of his fans and collaborators.

Mavado Slams Drake for Appropriating Dancehall in Diss Record ‘Enemy Line’

Mavado Slams Drake for Appropriating Dancehall in Diss Record Enemy Line

Apparently, Mavado is the latest person Drake is feuding with and the Dancehall icon wants all the smoke.

“Kill somebody and come back,” the Jamaican artist sings on his newly released diss record, “Enemy Line.” “Di big belly 12-gauge run di ground hot/Ah, pussy you nuh know crime mussy crime inna show.” Shortly after, he suggests Drake wishes he was Jamaican. “Tell soft and fake likkle sheep, likkle mormon/Die trying but you will neva be a yard man.”

Apparently, Mavado is responding to a diss line Drake unleashed on his Popcaan collaboration, “Only You Freestyle.”

With Pop Skull in Gaza, but not that Gaza, but still it’s a mazza/N***as want peace like Cassava/But we let bridge dem burn like grabba,” Drake raps referencing the Gully God’s hometown. “Four in the cliz and one in the headie/Hand no shake, man, hold that steady/You man love pose with the ting for the picture/You man shoulda buss that ting already.”

Aside from Popcaan being an OVO signee and his beef with Mavado, Drake has history with the “Caribbean Girl” singer.

Mavado appeared in his 2014 “Find Your Love” music video but their relationship went sour allegedly because of bad business.

It’s unclear where the issues stem from or where it’s going, but hopefully it stays in mp3 files.

Jamaican Appeal Court Denies Vybz Kartel’s Motion for 2014 Murder Conviction

Vybz Kartel was hoping to get his 2014 murder conviction appealed but it was denied in a Jamaican courtroom on Friday.

A three-member panel in Kingston released a 235-page opinion detailing why they weren’t dismissing the charges against the Dancehall artist and his co-defendants, Shawn Campbell, Kahira Jones and Andre St. John.

The hearing was held via teleconference and streamed on Instagram Live due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Kartel, born Adidja Azim Palmer, Campbell (known as Shawn Storm), Jones and St. John (known as Mad Suss) were charged in 2011 with the murder in Jamaica of Clive “Lizard” Williams. Williams’ remains were never found by authorities.

Court documents claim the amount of direct and circumstantial evidence led to the court decision to sentence Campbell and Jones to a minimum of 25 years in prison before becoming eligible for parole and Kartel and St. John to serve a minimum of 35 years and 30 years, respectively.

Vybz Kartel and his co-defendants have previously appealed their convictions in 2017, which clearly also got denied, citing the prosecutor’s use of only one witness and other mismanagements of the case like the publicity.

Kartel recently made headlines for making a brief, historic guest appearance on Jamaican producer, Rvssian’s live. We reported that Jamaican authorities confiscated his contraband cellphone and the repost of the live was removed from his Instagram page.

Vybez Kartel and his three co-defendants have been fighting to get an appeal regarding the Jamaican artist’s 2014 conviction in the murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams. On Friday (April 3), the Court of Appeals rejected the attempt but Kartel’s legal team will take the case to the United Kingdom-based privy council as a final measure.

Local publication the Jamaican Gleaner reports that Kartel, given name Adidja Palmer, and the co-defendants Shawn Campbell, Kahira Jones, and Andre St. John were convicted of the 2011 murder of Williams in 2014. Kartel’s team has been fighting for two years to have the case heard in the Jamaican Court of Appeal, six years after his actual conviction.

As the coronavirus situation has also affected the island nation, the court’s decision was made during a conference call between a panel of three, the attorneys for the men, and prosecutors.

Kartel has been ordered by the court to serve 35 years before he can seek parole. The other co-defendants must serve 25 years each.
